What bike is this?

Hi all, this pic was taken about 1941 when my grandfather was navigating Lancaster Bombers in Europe with the RAAF. The girl on the bike was my great aunt. My pop made it home after the war ended but his parents had sold the bike.
Any ideas on the model please?

Not 100% sure but it could be this, 1930's AJS single

You could be right Bones.
Looking at Fatbats picture closely though the gear lever position does not match, also the shape of the motor just above the sheilas left foot looks at odds. But hey!, it's a pretty old faded picture and not easy to be sure.
The arse end of the exhaust pipe is a close fit though.
Thing is there were lots of bikes around that time that looked quite similar.
By chance I found an old picture of my dad on a bike sometime in the 40's and could not for the life of me work out quite what the bike was.
Luckily at the time his best mate was still alive and remembered what the bike was.
I would never have guessed otherwise.
It was a New Imperial 500cc

You guys are clever as I don’t know too much about bikes of that era. Some good possibilities mentioned so thanks for sharing. My family knows even less than me and were scratching their head saying harley or Norton

Love these posts. Reminds me of the time I was throwing shit at my grandfather for riding an old belt drive Norton in his younger days. After Harley switched from chain to belt drive I can clearly remember him telling me he knew it was a passing fad. Silly old bugger.
