So I’ve had harleys for about the last 16 years, sporties, twin cams and an iron head.

Been without one for about 6 months now, sold one of my triumphs and thought I’d go see about a new softail std.

I’m gonna be honest. The current bikes just didn’t get me vibed at all. The new softail was ok but just didn’t feel.. I dunno.

Don’t get me wrong I know they handle much better, go great, have better brakes etc. but it just didn’t have the vibe, the paint wasn’t great either didn’t have that encased in glass feel.

So guys that have moved on to the new stuff, so they just feel better with time or am I better off looking for something older but in good nick?

Yep, they don’t excite me either, have you had a look at the Kwaka 900RS, if I thought I wouldn’t kill myself on one, 🤣 if your lookin for new.

I test rode a Kwaka 900RS with the intention of adding it to the stable, but... Didn't like the power delivery at all. Seemed like an old school two stroke, no grunt until 6000 rpm then takes off. Gears were also too close together. I've ridden many of the old Z's, the new ones might look similar, but no.

Never was a fan of the electronic bikes, I still have a love/hate relationship with my '12 TC. Love it while it works, hate it when it stops. TC engine doesn't quite have the same 'feel' of any of my older Harleys.

Loved the old '86 Softail overall, didn't have the grunt that the TC has, nor the brakes or handling, but most problems could be fixed or bodgied on the roadside.

M8s leave me cold. Too fat. Love the old early Softail frame as it echoed the lines of the rigid big twins back to the knucklehead. M8's swingarm looks more like a WLA's rear frame.

    My two bob's worth.

A mate bought a new Rocket, loves it in cool weather but reckons much above 30 degrees it’s a ball boiler.
    I wouldn’t mind trying a BMW R 18.
They sure have a road presence.

Sounds like an older one in good nick is what you are after Mr Mow.
I enjoy the hell out of my 84 Shovel, even though it's driving me nuts trying to stop oil leaks. It goes no where as fast as my stage 4 twin cam but
somehow is every bit as much fun (if not more) to ride. Patiently on the lookout for an Evo in good nick as well. The older bikes can be registered for much less here too.
Having said that, I reckon Ratrob might be on a winner with the Triumph Rocket 3.
Saw this video the other day and must admit I'd be keen to test ride one once the ice on the roads thaws.
