Legend Cartridges

    Hi All,

Managed to get the bike over the weekend and took it for a run up the Putty Road. The bike has Legend Cartridge Inserts but it was feeling a bit harsh, like it was over dampened. I fitted the cartridges and have always felt they are a little harsh. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried a lighter oil weight than what comes standard with them.

    Regards

Not sure about the Legend Cartridges but when I fitted the progressive ones on the Night Train there were a couple of shims that the instructions said to install. Bloody nearly died during a test ride. Removed the shims and now they work well. Can't see a problem by going to a lighter oil. I'm guessing that the oil is just to lube the internals like on the progressive ones but I have been wrong before.

    Thanks for reply Bones,

From what I do know is that the oil will be part of the dampening, compression and rebound. They are OK and Ive done a few K's now with them installed but it just seems they are a little over dampened. If I was about 40kg heavier they would probably be OK.

Just wondering if anyone else has tried it before I was a lot of hours and risk 300kg bike falling on me.

    Regards

Leachy, pretty sure the oil is only for lubrication when running cartridges mate.
Plenty of discussions on the legends carts and shocks on the US forum, most guys say similar to what you mention if on the lighter side. Did you set the circlip on the lowest setting?
I know some guys said they will soften up a bit after a few kms but will always be firmer.
I've got a 17 SGS and went a slightly heavier oil at 25kms with stock internals, definitely better but certainly room for more improvement. All comes down to how much to spend.
    Good luck

Yeah these are on the softest setting as I read the issues on the USA forums before I installed them. I too was thinking they would loosen up a bit but, now have about 5000kms with them installed. They are really good for handling on smooth roads, bike keeps up with an half decent sports bike rider, but gets a bit tiring for the longer haul on the rough country roads.
