Don't think it's my charger FC, this one is a Ctek MXS 5.0, last one was a Ctek as well but an older version and of the 3 range if I remember right, my first hd battery went nearly 7 years, it never and I mean never seen a charger, next new hd battery went 4 and it did see a charger now an then, next one went 2, again, charger, everyone seems to have varying longevity, perhaps it's luck of the draw, I do not know.

What does the "5.0" signify about the charger GM?.
I think climate may have something to do with life span as well. Hotter the climate the less life for your battery.

Stab in the dark but I'm thinking it's referring to it being a 5amp charger.

That's eggs ackerley what I was thinking too mate.
I aint no electrical engineer or anything but a trickle charger oughta be a trickle, wondering if yours is more like a raging torrent at 5amps. Mine is 1 amp shared around 5 bikes.

Yeah nar that's not how this gizmo rolls, it's got multi stage charging procedures built in, you tell it what battery you have and it will rapid charge it to 80% or there about, then it goes into a slow top up mode then it goes into a float mode, it's got 7 stages, does normal and AGM batteries, has two power ranges, for batteries of 14ah and under it's fast charge is .8amps, batteries over 14ah up to 160ah it's 5amps, my current battery is 18ah.

A lot of issues come from the purity of the Lead used.
Most automotive batteries now use a large amount of recycled Lead that  has impurities.

I have had trouble with an HVT-1 Battery, did not last 4 months. Test by local distributor came up 400cca, test using electronic tester 210cca, would not even turn engine over. Waste of time talking to them just go & buy a different brand. Bought a Fulbatt, bike starts straight away. Bike is 2017 flstc.

I put a SSB HVT-1 battery in my 2011 fxst, stage 1,  back in early 2019.   It is starting to lose charge if left off  CTek
5amp float/ charger for couple weeks.
So about to prob get another of same battery, mainly as alot cheaper than others, but most are out of stock.  But also been looking at Deka but about 100cca less power. For $100 more.
