G'day everyone last year I bought a 2008 Heritage Softail it only came with one fob. So I have been thinking about buying a second fob for a spare just in case something happened to the one that came with the bike. Now here is the reason you need to ask questions. I rang one Harley dealership to ask about getting another fob and the reply I got is that I would probably have to buy two of them because my fob is probably obsolete and when they register the new fob to my bike it will turn off the old one. Now at a $130 for the fob plus paying labour cost to get it registered to the bike and times that by two it's getting expensive. Now I contacted another Harley dealer told them the story and they told me they have never heard anything like that before they said they could register a new fob to my bike and it won't turn the old one off and the cost is a $150 which includes fob and registration. Now remember both are Harley Davidson dealership's and both told me two totally different stories, btw I would like to hear from anyone here if they ever had a problem after getting a second fob getting it set up then it cancelled out the old one cheers.

Choco there is a procedure to self program a new fob, don't know it off the top of my head but it shouldn't be hard to track down if you are so inclined.
If it did cancel the old one you would just reprogram it as well so they are both assigned to the tssm.

Yes it just annoys me that two different Harley Davidson dealership's tell you two different stories. Then they say trust us we know what we are talking about.

Hey Choco, I have lost two fobs in the past. Each time I walked into the shop paid the money and a new coded fob arrived. No problems and no hassles. Both fobs worked fine.
