SE Stage 2 or Stage 3 and Dynojet Power Vision

    Hi guys,

I have been looking around but would be nice to hear your opinion to my questions because there is just too much out there.

I have a 2014 FLSTFB Fat Boy Lo with a Vance & Hince exhaust.

First of all I have just ordered a SE Heavy Breather Air Cleaner and am now trying to figure out if I'm better off with the Dynojet Power Vision PV2B or with the Screamin' Eagle Pro Street Tuner.
I like the way I can have the small screen connected whilst driving and access certain engine values with the Dynojet PV but I am not sure if it will provide me any required maps when I decide to have a stage 2 or 3 installed. Also the dealer installing stage 2 or 3 doesn't normally use the Dynojet and is obviously reluctant to use a system they do not know.
The question here would be if there is anyone on this forum running stage 2 or 3 with the Dynojet PV.

Next, I am still trying to figure out if I will just go stage 2 or even stage 3. Both of them require stage 1 completed which I understand, but if I have a stage 2 and later decide to go to stage 3, the camshaft from the previous stage really just goes in the bin. This would be $600 thrown out of the window.
Can anyone give me a down and dirty difference between stage 2 and 3 performances on a 103 CI engine. Is the extra money for a stage 3 really worth it?

    Thanks for your answers

    Tim

Ah Tim this is a rocky road you've chosen here. I have a 103 Street Glide with a std motor, pipes and a/cleaner. I run the power vision and its very simple to use and even has a self tuning mode. There are a huge selection of canned maps to give you a base setting running with basic mods. When you decide to get to a stg3 then canned maps should not be considered but a dynotune with a custom map specific to your combination is the preferred option. As for s/eagle tuners there are some clever folks on the forum that can assist you but again if your going to spend the $ on a stg3 then you need a reputable  builder/tuner to get the best from your investment. What state do you live in

I live in Darwin mate ..... so not really a lot of guys to choose from.

I also just saw a kit sold by HD which upgrades from 103 to 110 CI and includes a cam. That might be an easier solution as that one is probably far more standard and easy than a stage 3.

The issue is that the HD dealer here doesn't seem to have very much knowledge, or they haven't showed me the right guy to talk to.
So far I have had to get most of the information myself.

As indicated at the start this topic this is a rocky road indeed. Yes there is a bolt on kit to get you up to 110 cubes but there are several more options out there with arguably better components. My recommendation is to source a builder, discuss what your goal is, and get an idea of cost. Be prepared to spend money on quality components.

Pauly has good points there Pops, can I ask, what do you want out of it mate? How do you ride? Lot of folk think they ride hard but rarely get over 5krpm, be honest as it makes it easier to give suggestions, you might be happy with a cam and tune, depends what you expect from the engine.

Not much choice in Darwin. I wanted to go to stage 3 was getting a fat thinking about it,but then discovered the the dealers dyno was broken. I decided to wait until the dyno was fixed before I went ahead with the job. Five years later I am still on stage 1(dyno still broken) and am lucky if I go over 5,000 rpm once a year, so realistically I do not need to go to stage 3 as I do not ride as hard as I would like to believe. Plus I have not wasted all that money.
Have you had a chat to Rick at the Indian shop? he has a fairly good rep.

I don't really ride hard enough for a stage 3 .... it was probably just me being greedy ;-)

UPDATE: After talking to many people, watching hours of videos with lots of different cams and Dyno charts, I have decided to go with my stage 1 as discussed and "only" put a cam in at this point.
Not looking at and SE or S&S cams. I have just ordered a Woods TW222, a Dynojet PV-2B and a target tune kit from www.fuelmotousa.com.

The PV-2B comes with a preloaded map for my mods and after that I will try and get the bike tuned on a Dyno .... if there is a working one in Darwin at this stage.

    Thanks for your input guys.

Pretty sure Richard at Alicross still has his dyno going. He is a good guy.
