Sellers asking stupid prices for their bikes

Ok the world has gone mad with this COVID-19 craziness and some sellers have really lost the plot. I have a few buy and sell sites on my Facebook page and what some sellers are asking for their bikes is beyond belief. We all want the best deal when we sell our bike but sometimes trying to make $10,000 plus over a realistic price of what the bike is really worth well it's just crazy. And then you start reading some the replies from other people telling sellers what their bikes are really worth and then the sellers spits the dummy big time and cracks the shits. Ok it's their bike to sell and they are allowed to ask what they want but seriously doing a little bit of research first on what the bikes are really selling for would help. Maybe trying to make a very small profit these days would be better than putting a totally crazy price on the bike and then copping a shit load of flack from others who laugh at what they are asking. Anyway my opinion only might try selling my 2008 Heritage for $25,000 anyone interested lol.

Agree, there are some mad prices at the moment for used bikes and cars. To the point some are within shouting distance of new prices. May as well buy new and get warranty with some of the prices asked.

Have to agree. But there will always be some fool who is willing to pay. While searching Ebay for old watches that I can restore I noticed some guy had posted for auction a photo of a rolex watch and even stated it was a photo and not the real thing in the description. The bidding sat at $10.00, then about 5 minutes before ending some fool bid $10,000. Would have loved to see the look on their face when they received the product.

I have heared that Toyoda are selling SH for mor than new prices as the lead time for new vehicles are so long

at the end of the day, your bike is only worth as much as someone will pay for it

It’s a buyers market for second hand harleys.
Have a look at a site called bike sales in Australia.
There are more harleys for sale than Honda’s.

I have heard that Toyota are selling SH for more than new prices

    You heard right SB.
    Not only Toyota's.
Some second hand cars are selling for thousands (even many, many thousands) more than new ones as some cars have a waiting list of over a year.
It only takes a deposit of a grand to secure a new one in a years time (for some makes), or get ripped off to the hilt now.
Could be a good investment for an out of the box gamble.

Toyotas are overpriced and overrated at any amount.

Dead right about it being a buyers market for Harleys, there are thousands for sale at the moment.

Lets see how things are going by the end of this month....we are entering a unknown this month with the end of job keeper, the end of freezes for home loan repayments and a hopefully return to travel normality. The reserve bank meets tomorrow and it will be fascinating to see the wording they will use regarding future rate rises in a effort to slow down the housing feeding frenzy at the moment along with the car/bike sales exceeding demand. Australians currently have more savings than in the last 50yrs so the buying spree was partly funded by job keeper payments along with not paying back home loans and people removing money from super, all of those streams are nearly dry. Perhaps its time for a reality check for some of those who bought their toys on the back of existing debt..there may well be lots of cancelled orders as well as a glut of used bikes, used caravans, cars, boats etc in the foreseeable future.

I fuggin hate banks, but no bloody way I'd be lending against current house pricing with so much uncertainty around. I imagine lenders mortgage insurance is going up.

I've got a couple of mates that did the post-Covid lockdown "ferk this, you only live once" And financed Caravans, dirtbikes and 4wds.

In 6-12 months I reckon prices will nose dive when reality sinks in.
Personally I'm working on piecing together a lifestyle where you need less money and Zero reliance on Banks.

I could not care less! If they want a 100 or a 1,000,000 not interested.

Seems to be the opposite in WA. Used clean Harley big twin prices are thru the roof.

Good mate of mine bought a 2015 Fatboy 2 and a half years ago at the bottom of a "slump". Paid $15 K plus stamp duty , a good buy at the time !

He late last year sold it for (and Instantly mind you, first weekend !) on Gumtree for $19,500. Can't believe his luck ! It was a super clean bike tho' !

Then he sets off to buy a Heritage Deluxe to take the missus on the back etc , has real trouble finding one "at the right price"

Finds a real minter 2008 (!) at the HD dealer , pays them $21K plus stamp duty. 8,900 K's one owner thing very clean like a lot of them.

Fully loaded , Deluxe bags , rack/sissy bar , screen etc etc.

Shoulda kept his Fatboy and put bags , sissy bar and a screen on it ( hindsight and all that !).

This scenario may be restricted to WA , I have seen all that before now as things cycle , peak and trough.

2 and 3 years ago used big twins were way down here , and bargains aplenty. Think a 2007 CVO Springer privately for $17K !

Kind of like selling houses, everyone is quick to say it's a good time to sell your house, but then you have to buy in the same market... Can't have it both ways (although I sold my property in Melbourne last November, we already had our place out bush).
