We had a DR 650 tag along on our Cape York trip...it was the bike to be on for the serious dirt bits but couldn't keep up on the tar bits getting to Cooktown. It was most comfortable @ 90/95kph where the bigger bikes could sit 110kph plus.

He must be pretty serious of roader choosing a KTM 790 that's a decent bit of gear. The Pan Am is a great bike, sure he will be a fan.

nah,to be honest he doesnt do that much off road ,surprised me when he bought the KTM.not sure of his plans. his 790 is/was an S,not an R.

Still a pretty serious bit of kit regardless. Not sure what sort of rider he is but the average punter wouldn't go any quicker on a R than the S. You guys are WA based?

Well better buy a Pan Am for that trip...the roads past Gympie going north are so bad. They are doing work on them but its beyond terrible. More pot holes on the Bruce Highway than the PDR headed to the tip!
