Anyone got a good set of night vision goggles/spectacles they are happy to recommend ?
Looking for a set that leaves the hands free and actually works.
    Cheers
You know, like that  fella wore them in that film ,"Silence of the Lambs".
They looked pretty clumpy and cumbersome to me and there must be more modern alternatives available these days.

F C , well have not used these on my motor bike but, use on my mountain push bike on dirt tracks, they have yellow Lenz & wrap around ( no wind or dust in eye's ) would be good with open face, most push bike places like Pushys online sell them

    No, not yellow glasses. Krash
I'm after goggles that let one see in pitch blackness.
You'd think Bunnings would have them, but they dont

Hi FC. I've got a Russian made gen 1 night vision monocular which I paid nearly a k 20 years ago. I still use it looking at bats and animals and stars. Probably can buy a second hand one for around $400 (zenit 100 on GT for $280) but no way to connect it to a camera or your melon.

I understand Gen 1 technology widely available in SA unlike Mil spec Gen 2 or better (a lot better optics and light amplification) which is restricted from being exported from the US of A.

You can buy digital versions but anything that is stereo, has a depth of field, will truly see in the dark, hands free or could be fitted to a weapon is horrifically expensive. There is an ATN head mounted monocular in SA on GT for $150 which is the only thing I could find that had a reasonable review and if your didn't like it could pop it in the drawer.

It's not a matter of which one could people recommend, it's how much can you afford. Do a search on Ebay, find one (or a couple in your $ range that are available and do another google review.

So I can see when it is pitch black and no one will know I am there.
I have got some kick arse LED torches but they are no good if you are trying do stuff at night without being seen doing it.

I’ve got a few tassie mates. Good blokes but don’t change much even after they move to the big island. My tassie mates said dont confuse a sheep with a ram. They said you’d understand this random tip

Yeah no worries fc. Happy to research and pen a reply for you.

Thank you Steelo for your lengthy initial response.
I did look on ebay but was suspicious that the offerings there were cheap low quality stuff.
How do you find using the monocular type?. Can you walk around ok with it in the dark and use tools?. I would have imagined you would lose depth of field vision with a monocular.
Not looking to mount the goggles on a weapon, jut need hands free. However did think of going to the local gun shop to see if they had any.

Best place would be your local telescope optical shop.
Have to hang on to mine. Depth of field not good.

Cmon fc, don’t keep us in suspense. Now you’re talking about using “tools”, you’ve really got me curious. We can all keep a secret here

So I don't want to see Steelo in a dark alley.  Hang on, I wouldn't see him.  Wait a minute would meeting him in broad day-light be any less dangerous, sure you see it coming but it's still coming your way.

Nothing too sinister going on here Fatbat. Don't need any more human skins a.t.m like the weirdo in silence of the lambs.
However there is a problem that is just eating away at me.
Have tried polite negotiation with no result.
Also considered fighting fire with fire but the old saying, "cut your nose to spite your face" does not sit well in my book.
Was thinking, night vision specs, a brace and bit (because they are quiet) and a few pints of "monsanto borer" were the only option when starting this thread.
