Just looking into maybe upgrading my bike and was looking at the sport glide and the electra glide. Both have screens and bags although I would lean more towards the electra glide because bags open from the top and screen looks like it would give more protection. On the usa site they are about the same price yet here there is 5k between them. WTF. You would think harley aus prices would mirror the usa prices ( plus shipping and conversion costs ) but some models here are priced ranked differently to the states. anyone know why. just curious. Are you saying the sportglide and Electraglide pricing is the same in the USA but obviously the Electraglide costs more here?

If so good question and I didn’t know that. Couple of things come to mind for me. Supply and demand in different markets is one thing. For example tourers are their main product in the USA and softails are way down the pecking order. A different story here. Plus the Electra glide was only recently reintroduced to the lineup of models as a stripped down ultra. Maybe it’s not selling there as well as they planned so priced down. I dunno but good question.

yes sport glide usa 18599 aus 27750 electra glide standard usa 18999 aus 34995. That is a big profit margin for someone as I dont expect the factory is selling them for almost 7k more. Fairly new model but if they wanted us to buy more tourers it would have been a perfect entry level bike as all the bits missing off a street glide can be added as they are pre wired for the audio and navigation. The street glide standard has been omitted from our lineup which is about 3k more than the electra glide so i am thinking that if the electra glide was selling for 28k the next model up fixed fairing bike would be the street glide special at 39250. Maybe they dont want that big of a price gap between the two and that is why they have raised the price. You are right about supply and demand I havent even seen one at a shop in adelaide so they probably arent selling that well here. But would they if they were cheaper?

I think the idea behind the Electra glide is a blank canvas tourer for people to customise the fuck out of as many yanks do to their tourers. So maybe a market there for them but how much market demand anticipated v actual is unknown to me but might be a factor.

Whilst tourers are popular here, they aren’t to the same extent here as in the USA and people here rarely don’t go nuts customising tourers. Personally, and also for people I know, I wouldn’t consider the Electraglide because I’d want the extras that the ultra, street glide or road glide provide. And to put the harley extras on the Electraglide afterwards would probably cost more money (and time/effort). It’d be different if I felt the extras to put on from harley were sufficiently  inferior that I wanted to put my own custom replacement parts on like a stereo and speakers among other things. But I don’t think most of us here think that is necessary or viable.

I had a road glide custom and spent a bit of coin on a better stereo, amp and speakers. It was impressive but I wouldn’t do it again because better sound and better hearing protection is achieved using ear moulded head phones. I also bought genuine harley lowers which cost a bit over a $1,000.

On the second hand market at least (if not new) I think the ultras provide best value and you strip it back if/when you want to. Turning one of the lower spec tourers up to the spec of an ultra would likely cost more money and stuff around.  But second hand they usually have more kms on them than the others which makes sense given they’re most fit for purpose for proper touring. I’ll get another tourer one day and it’ll be an ultra. Until then I’m happy with what I have

I agree FB I have no interest in audio on my bike just was after bags and fairing. Anyway factory has made the choice easier by dropping the electra glide standard. I guess I must have ruffled some feathers somewhere. HaHa. Potluk

And aye fatbat, those lower legshields still work a treat , thanks mate.
I'm looking at going the other way, from Road Glide 2012 with a whole lotta jazz, to a Dyna with no stereo, speakers, nor a cigarette lighter, plus no fairing, don't fucken need that jazz.T'was looking at going around the fucken world in 2012, now just interstate is cool. I'm that oldie that needs all the air can get down these dusty, naturally product induced 'contaminants', so need super charged air channel, before ICU.
    Swap out any one?

Hey Mike funny you still got those fairing lowers. They work a treat for wind protection, cold and rain. Hope they did the trick for you and you got more use out of them as me (not riding enough)

I also went the lighter bike route back to a dyna although I can see myself going back to a bigger tourer eventually

Shame you can’t keep your road glide and buy a cheaper dyna to have the best of both worlds?

That might be the Electra glide standard, which might come with fairing and panniers, but thats all. No audio,  no nothing

And probably a better bike for it.  In a similar vein would like a Electro Glide Sport from '93.  Precursor to the Road King.  Back in the day I wanted one bad.
