Analogue / digital Grrrrrrrr

With all this spare time on my hands at the moment thought I'd have a crack at a little project. Have 2 old VHS c Camcorders [ 20+ years old and working ] one has a flip out screen,Panasonic VX55, and one does not, another Panasonic. so with a shoe box of old tapes I can watch them but only on the small 3" screen. When I plug them to the back of a fairly modern TV with RCA? plugs, red yellow white, I get zip. Went to H'Norman and talked to the "Tech" repair guys and they were not sure how i can view these tapes on a modern Tv so they sent me to Jaycar...Impressive shop. They have a Composite to HDMI "converter" cable for $90.00 which they say should work but they just cannot guarantee it will, so if it does not do it's job, $90 down the gurgler as I can't return for a refund after purchase. If it was thirty bucks I'd have a crack and if it failed that would be ok but can't just burn $90. Anyone out there faced a similar problem and maybe have an answer? Dont want to utilise a dubbing shop as I think the cost may be too much to transfer to a hard drive etc. Just really after a way to view them on the TV.

Nearly every time I have bought something from Jaycar I feel like an idiot once the product is at home and put into actual use.
The guys who work there seem to have done a "course" in how not to give cash refunds (for dodgy items) with out a hell of a fight.
I admire your optimism with your project Fey, but they did say no refund.
Maybe you can get a good quality modern video camera and set it up to film the films you have on the 3" screen. Then take it from there.

    Hi Fey
The red and white cable is for stereo audio only (or one channel audio and video)
The 3 plug combo into Coax gives you a signal that can be picked up by analog TV channel 4?  You may have to retune your TV to use that.
Can you show me the outputs on the video units.
Have you googled instructions for these units.
    Update
This is how to play on a TV using the red and white cable from the online manual
    and for the G1

Thanks Fellas. Yes even after all these years I have the manuals and have used them but no go....Waiting on a " Video" capture unit that I bought online yesterday that "should" plug the camcorder to the computer and allow me to transfer sound and image to a hard drive....Could be a goer? $15.00 delivered from Sydney. Reasonable price and no harm if it doesn't work.
