Would you have the vaccine shot

    My wife and I are split on this one!!! 
    We look after both our 83 year old mums, my wife says no way is she or any of us are having a vaccine for covid 
    I say all of us take the vaccine and just get on with it what harm can it do?

    Good question and thread, BD. 

    I worry about the long term consequences of this vaccine given it is developed for something so unique and developed in such a hurry. 

    However the consequences for non-widespread vaccination are significant. 

    If there isn’t significant uptake, it will only be a matter of time before non-vaxxers are exiled from certain things just like non-vaxxed kids can’t go to certain schools and day care centres 

    I will probably wait and assess for a while. As long as I can....

    Its not quite like chicken pox, the kid down the road gets it, all the mums in the area take their kids over to play with him/her

    I will because i spend a lot off time each year in the philliphines. Own a small farm there. But got out when covid hit . expensive health care for us foreigners

    So so many different scenario's to this covid 19 economic 
    My mate was 1 week to flying out for his wedding in the Philiphines now just phone calls between them

    will be good here also, the first vaccines are to be given to the prisoners first, captive test and highly monitored, will see side effects pretty quick in that controlled enviroment

    Donald Trump said on the news tonight that if it wasnt for his efforts the vaccine would be 5 years away.
    He is gonna wait for a while before he gets the jab.  Dont know if that will help the 3000 yanks that are dying each day but.

    Hard to get a accurate study from them...half of them are nut jobs and the other half just batshit strange and this is before they get a jab!

    And another piece of trivia regarding guinea pigs. Did you know that if you measure their back feet with a digital micrometer the left  and right feet are almost the exact same size?
    Usually within a millimeter or so.

    As a non-medical professional, I have done some research on them. At the Xmas time, there are 5 vaccines being used atm with many pending candidates. EU/US has two, Russia has one, China has two. Three different clans use totally three different technologies. So no easy way to compare. Both EU/US ones use modRNA while both Chinese ones use Inactivated SARS-CoV-2 (vero cells). Russia uses Non-replicating viral vector (adenovirus). 

    EU/US ones are cutting edge new technology, which would sound more exciting on smartphones than vaccines as no any previous vaccine was made with "modRNA" at all. 95% effectiveness much higher than Chinese ones 86% at Phase III. But Chinese ones can be transported at room temperature while EU/US ones require minus 70 and minus 20 degrees in transport. So it also means things can go wrong in hot environments. 

    My understanding, as for now, they are all not quite good. They were all approved in a "speed up" fashion/process due to political reasons. A good vaccine requires at least two and a half years to be perfect pointing to 2022 tbh. If you don't live in a crowded suburb, never take train/tram to travel, then I think you should wait.
