Which Harley?

    Hi All,

Haven’t had a bike in a few years and thinking of a Harley (my first) - 2nd hand 2018 onwards...
I’d like mid-foot controls and the bike will be used for commuting and weekend blasts plus a few long overnight trips every few months.

    My perfect bike 😬
    * the looks of a Fatboy
    * the comfort of a heritage
    * the lean angle of a Fatbob
    * the range of a Road King

Which Harley comes the closest? I’m thinking of a heritage classic but apparently the lean angle is poor.

    Cheers

    Probably a street glide.

For a good commuter , in the city, you need something that can split the lanes easy, needs to be slim & the hand grips need to be high or lower than average car mirrors. so just take that into account & book a test ride in peak hour.

Thanks for the feedback - I didn’t know there was an Iron 1200 so will have a look at that but (other than the Roadster) haven’t really been a fan of the sportsters for some reason. Will also have a closer look at the street glide again, but I didn’t really want a touring bike. Other than looks, what is different between the glide and the heritage?
BTW I live in the country so my commuting is really just a nice ride to work!

I have read that it’s possible to swap shocks on the softail range - so in theory I could get a Fatboy and put a Fatbob shock in it to raise the clearance, expensive and potentially messes with the geometry etc etc.

Thanks again - appreciate the feedback.

    Hey dicko,,
Correct me if I'm wrong,,,, But I believe the Sports Glide has got the flick for 2020 ??
Could buy a used one I suppose....
The Heritage is now included in the Touring family... For a more nimble /lighter type touring bike the Heritage seems to hit the mark....
The only knock I have for the Heritage , (just my opinion, and it is only to do with looks), is it still has a narrower rear tire,, not the 180 which is on all the other touring models... The 180 on the rear would just fill the arse end out to my liking ,,,, Don't know why HD have not updated the rear to a 180...

with everything you mention the only bike that really fits is the SPORTGLIDE .. has the side panniers .. and also cruise control for the long runs , great around town, good fuel economy , great for commuting and bloody comfy .. you might have to change the controls to mid .. or just throw on some boards maybe : ) .. no brainer really !

The Sport Glide is very interesting and does seem to be the right bike.

Very few second hand bikes available (on Bikesales) and all in black. The burnt orange colour would probably be my favourite....

Found a thread overnight about a guy in WA who is modifying his Fat Boy to be touring friendly - added a Fat Bob shock, lockable hard bags, better seat etc etc. Looks good and appears to give him best of both worlds, but likely very expensive!

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll call a few places today to see what stock looks like and determine the chances of getting a second hand bike.
