I have been using the above for over 4 years now, I purge mine every oil change. I just like to get all the old shit out of the engine.

Not a softail but my TC dyna I've started using Redline oils after advice from these forums and I've no complaints. Also found the easiest place to order it was through www.sparesbox.com.au

i'm running john deere "hygard " in my primary[ i'm a JD tech ] and its making the clutch a bit better, better disengagement when cold for that first gear selection.the oil covers all our transmission, planetary drive, hydralic and final drive requirements, with wet clutchs in the trans.

an up side from using the JD oil is that the primary is a lot quieter on starting, less of what may be a bit of compensator noise when starting...or maybe i'm imagining things.

RE: Delboy's Garage full oil purge:
I did a full service with oil purge as per Delboy's Garage YouTube a couple of weeks ago. It was not the first time I have done it, but this time I had big issues getting the plastic clip re-inserted correctly. Stuffed up 2 O-rings in the process. My bike is 16 years old, and there was just too much rust pitts and grime in there. It just would not go on. I cleaned it out using the stub end of a drill bit that was slightly smaller than the size of the hole (10 or 12 mm I think), with a strip of emery paper taped on and wrapped around the stub end enough times to make it a tight fit in the oil return hole. Then I just turned the bit by hand till it was smooth, and obviously wiped out and cleaned it up.
I then applied some INOX rubber grease before re-inserting the pipe and a new O-ring and plastic clip. It made all the difference. Just slid straight on and went 'click' into position.
Just a heads up for anyone who encounters problems.

Just did this yesterday myself, had issues with broken o ring and scunge in there and leaking (had the oil tank out to do starter clutch) new clips and o rings, bit of rubber grease and slipped straight back in.
All good after a test run this morning.
Clips with orings, spacer come in a kit 12$ each.

Are you all using the right tool to release the oil return pipe ??

Rick there is a plastic clip release tool available, slips onto the pipe and you slide it into the connection and it releases the clips so the pipe comes out, obviously you have managed without it though.

Autobahn, Supercheap etc. They are used to disconnect the aircon and fuel injection lines on cars.

    Yes, good point Phatty,
And the little plastic insertion tool comes with the replacement clip and O-Rings (also worth getting).
For those unaware, the little plastic tool allows you to assemble the the plastic clip, 2 O-rings with the spacer in between, and insert it into position on the tank. You then remove the plastic tool and can visually see they are all seated properly, BEFORE sliding the metal oil return pipe in through the whole lot.
I found all this out the bloody hard way (cursed and swore, drained tank, fished out damaged O-Ring, replaced oil, etc).

The grease I used was a small tube of INOX mx6 with ptfe.  It's a synthetic food grade high temp grease, great for rubber 0-rings, etc.

When they go in Rick, they go in with a "click" and they go in without to much force (talking plastic clip with o rings) then carefully remove the insertion tool.

Fuck me dead.  Another engine oil thread.
Fair enough then but who started this bullshit about " purging the oil "  crap?
From what I have been reading here youve got to dismantle the oil tank , replace  o rings  and invent new tools to do the job.
And try not to fuck something else up or scratch the paint .
If you change the oil in your bike regularly which most of us do this procedure is totally unneccessary.
I suppose if youre bored it might keep you occupied for a few hours but.
