I have a X-terra 705 and a Gold Monster 1000, both good machines, not quite a GPZ 7000 but when we find $10000, we will upgrade to one, that's our goal

both of them are easy to set up and run, the GM 1000 is turn on and use straight from the box, (5 min setup)

I’m interested in getting a metal detector for gold of late. Been doing some panning around ACT and just had a look at Adelong where I found some really small nuggets for minimal effort but would like to get a detector to step things up.

Can you add some more about views of the Minelab kit vs QED and others? The GoldMonster 1000 is circa $1100 vs $1800 for the QED. That’s a decent amount of cash! Watching Aussie Gold Diggers they all have much more expensive kit (sponsored by Minelab) and even then, for some it may as well be a fly seat for how useful they’ve found it. Looking for best value set up for an enthusiastic amateur.

I’m not an expert been using mates we have found some.
Just have to learn to identify what you have picked up & locate easy.
M8 has had eye on Minelab GPX 5000 ,
I’d be ok with Gold Monster.

In-laws live in Ballarat and I figure getting a detector and using it as much as possible would pay for itself quick even if I don’t find any gold!

Closer to home, I’m finding good gold flakes along certain parts of the the Murrumbidgee, but need to improve nous to do better. Also identified a spot up the Brindabella’s and towards the coast worth a look. All a good excuse to get out and for over $2000 an ounce, you’d be mad not to have a sniff about.
