84 shovel jet sizes

    Replacing the keihin butterfly carb on my 84 FLHX shovel with a keihin CV carb . The butterfly carb has a 165 main and a 70 pilot which worked ok, what jets would be a good starting place for the CV carb. thanks

    Did you make a typo on the pilot jet size mate? CV pilots are something like #42-#50. I use #185 main and #46 79 80" Shovel with pipe and filter upgrade.

    Nope... thats the right sizes for the OEM Butterfly carb.  The CV uses say a 42-45 pilot and a 160-180 main and then its a crap shoot on what needle to use.  

    Also make sure the pilot hole in the CV is OEM diameter and not drilled out to the 'faster' larger size.

    yell out if you get stuck or need a jet or needle as I have an absolute chitload here from when I was setting up the turbo on the CV.

    I put  one on an early evo and used a  screaming eagle tuners kit. It came with a heap of  jets needles and pilots to do the job.
