I have been in and out of them and even a founding member for one back in the day.
Nowadays they come across as pretentious cruiser riders. (thats just my opinion and experience), or it could be that I like to have a life outside of HOG .

Supose there a good thing for lots of people , but myself , went on one of there rides a couple of years ago , Will say there was perhaps 50 bikes , they had a good turn out , don't know if thats normal or not ,, But the ride took off , and i did'nt like it , couple of women in front of me , braking too hard in the corners , flat out on the straight to catch up , , and i'm thinking get away from these before they come off and kill me , they were all over the place ,, pulled into the designated pub to stop for a beverage , no one had informed the manager we would be there , so only the manager on , stood patiently in line to get a beer , and i mean a long line , , it was taking for ever , because no one wanted a soft drink or beer it was mailny women ordering coffee , and this poor bastard took about 5 minuites a coffee , , after 20- maybee 30 minuits in line i said to the bloke behind me ,, fook this i'm going to the next pub , funny enough him and the fella behind him came with me .
Dunno i won't knock it but i'm not a real big fan of big group rides anyway , they tend to bunch up, and you rely on the person in front being experienced enough to know how to ride , and ego takes over ,, plus , on them things , can't help but wonder why half of them feel the need to dress like pirates , with headscarfs , nicknames , and more badges than a caravan .

I have to agree boxa. I did my one and only group ride and that lasted around 20min before i exited left stage and went my own way. Too many levels pf skill, or lack of skill, braking when they should be accelerating. Not worth getting hurt from someone elses errors

I agree with you all on the issue of the bigger group rides, but it is kind of fun to be part of that. Plus if people don't learn how to ride properly they will never learn, only by accidents. I am close to 50 these days and have been continuously riding for 30 years, recently Ive been teaching a few younger guys wanting to get into it. There are a lot of weekend warriors that have the money, ego and not the skill Ive learned to just avoid those kind of people these days.
In saying all that I'm currently not a member just don't have time .
