Front Reflectors - General Consensus

    Hi All,
What's the general consensus on front fork reflectors?  Does everyone whip them off or leave them on?

Does the bike become a target for the police if they're off?

Is there an issue with compliance?  Is there an alternative to the very unattractive long thin reflectors on HD's currently?

The ADRs only require one reflector on each side. That can be the front one or the back one. HDs come with both because of DOT requirements and that meets the ADRs when they change the rear reflectors to Orange ones.
In NSW it isn't compulsory to have them at all but not sure where that leaves you with in terms of the ADR.
I left my front ones on to add some visibility if it's parked by the side of the road at night.

What about replacing them with smoked reflectors?

Good question... I still have mine on the 09 Sporty, BUT the lower fork legs are starting to look a little sketchy and pitted given the clearcoat gave out years ago.  So i'll be removing them at some stage to polish the legs and then leaving them off.
Of all the reasons that you would get pinged by the cops on your bike I recon 'reflectors'are not even on the list!

I've removed them from every bike I've ever had. Cops are going to be way more concerned about your aftermarket mufflers than some missing reflectors.

All good points. I might whip them off on the weekend and just be done with it... I rarely, if ever, leave the bike parked in a Dark side street of a night, so having them serves very little purpose to me.

I left mine on, just to look stock original like as bikes a few years old ( more than a few )
but I have never left a Harley out ever, you need to get it inside beside your bed!! I've seen guys ride Harleys up flights of stairs using a plank, just to get inside the house.

FARK... that was ME back on the 80's and 90's when they were stolen every 5mins by the gangs.  Thankfully they are just another commodity item so not as prone to theft.

Smoked reflectors return white so they'd be ok on the front.

might look into those as an option.  Cheers!

Do what you like but I wonder why anyone would remove a safety device from their bike unless it falls off, gets taken, or never had one. It's hard enough getting seen now. It's not like people look at a bike (any bike) and think "gee nice bike but I wish it didn't have that reflector" I can just hear the offending driver who T bones you say "I never saw him" "isn't he supposed to have a reflector on the forks" and the subsequent lawyers field day

That's a good point steelo, I removed them from my Breakout but with the benefit of hindsight have thought a few times maybe it wasn't the smartest idea. It doesn't get ridden at night too much though.
It's a bit like guys on sports bikes with little pissant indicators that you can hardly see or under-tail units with largely ineffective tail/brake lights. Motorcycle riders really need every bit of help we can get being noticed with the inattentive muppets on the road these days.
