PLASTIC....  Geee... Thank God i have an Evo Big Block and Sporty.  The M8 is right up there with the VRod  and Edsel and head lice.

nothing wrong with the m-8 bro they are pretty sorted now

Yeah I agree, well sorted but still an M8.

Please don’t think I’m change prejudice. While it had its problems I enjoyed my Shovels, preferred the Evo, then absolutely loved my Dyna Twin Cam “rubber glides”, now riding a CVO Dyna 110 Twin Cam. Tried a few M8’s but just hate the balanced engine.
While there’s other reasons too, Harley sales since the M8’s release suggest I’m not alone.

I think Harley sales would be the same if they were still selling a twin cam. Sales are just down in general.

    Yeah sure mate I agree.
There are many factors, but our 2 local dealers reckon their used TC stock is moving well. I keep getting those pesky “We want your bike” emails.

So what advantage does a steel throttlebody have over a plastic one (i never knew this before now) is there a slight performance gain?

Plastic is lighter weight and cheaper to make.

There's been plenty of reports of the plastic manifolds warping causing intake leaks. Believe they offer a replacement version in ali now.
In saying that,  30k on mine now and no dramas.

Yeah.... I mean in stock form the Harley has sweet fuck all power and is rmp limited to buggery.  Try as they might you would be hard pressed to bugger a new Demo bike with a factory motor.  Now a second hand one that has been tuned or stage 2 then you know for sure its been flogged a bit.

    Go for it.

Quoting RossW on 19 Aug 2020 10:16 PM

All of the Demo bikes at Fraser's in Newcastle get Stage 1 kits, which I reckon is a bit misleading actually. Maybe they got too many people who complained that the demo bike sounded like a Vespa.

Quoting tussuck on 20 Aug 2020 01:18 AM

Agree.... The Stock bike is crap, so makes sense that they sneak a stage one flash or something onto the bike to make it at least sound like a harley.

Hey T , that was true in the past, but I road a friends brand new M8 , it was bog stock as they come from the factory. he had not had much time to ride it, told me to take it for a ride anywhere I like. & it performed fine , I think all the electronic's they needed to use to pass all the standards. has helped.
The dealers always had the SE upgrades on there test bikes in the past. would not need them now.

I did not know they used plastic TB's, but a lot of car manufacturers use plastic manifolds. on intake. & with EFI all the TB & intake do it regulate air can inject direct to the port.

Not for the same size, no. It simply allows one to truthfully run a "classic not plastic" bumper sticker on their bike. HD have often run steel where they could have saved a heap of weight using a suitable plastic to little or no detriment largely because of this sentiment.

    A personal observation.
As a mechanical engineer I work with plastics, metals and other materials a fair bit. The right plastic in the right application can outlast steel as well as saving weight and cost. Most problems happen when the wrong type of plastic is used in the wrong application, or the part is not designed with the properties of the material in mind.

The inlet manifolds are all made of plastic, mine warped and started sucking air esp on the down shift blips. I replaced it with the SE cast manifold. When i put the S&S 128 kit on i replaced this one with the SE 64mm cnc ported manifold and TB.
