Me old mate is trying to build  his bike.
Its  got the 1100 motor but hasn't been started for 14 years.. He got it running the other day but it was blowing flames out the front cylinder.  I was wondering if there is a cheap option to replace the barrels ,pistons and heads or would it be cheaper to get them machined with oversize pistons?
I would reckon you could buy a kit of some sort but would like to hear some suggestions from the forum.
    Cheers

What year and model is your mate’s flame throwing sporty? Be good to see a photo too, BB. Of the bike that is, not your mate. Bonus points if you can get a pic of it shooting flames out

He may not need to replace barrels, pistons and heads. A compression test is a good start.
Shooting flames sounds like a fuel issue.

As I said FC i dont really know any details. I would have thought the shooting flames thing would have been a sticky exhaust valve but thats just a guess too. Hopefully he will give us all the details where he is at with it.

I should have said the flames were blowing out the exhaust from the front cylinder.   I  have not saw it happening.
From memory they were straight through pipes but I  dont  remember all the details.
He has recently resurrected an old  1950 ish   AJS
That runs like a hairy old goat too.

ok..just thinking, with no pipes ,usually a few flames and stuff after a first start from a long standing time.could possibly be a shitty exhaust valve seat if that cylinder was left on exhaust stroke at the last run,but who would no,as suggested may be state of tune, also from long standing time, shit in jets ect.good luck on sorting the issue and getting the build going.
