Well. That's 2 fuck me's for one day. No free first service on a new bike and someone wanting to know how to get on and off their bike.

Well over the years since 1995 I have bought many new Harleys.

I was never concerned about "warranty" personally , so the bikes (almost) never went back to the dealer.

Last thing they did for me was the PDI. I did 100% of the servicing from day 1. First 3 hole oil change at 500 K's , next at 2,000 K's.

I did all the servicing from day 1 onwards. Over the years I had very very few "warranty" issues.

On a 2000 Deuce a failed speedo sensor , replaced by the dealer Frasers no issues.

On a 2013 CVO Breakout an "always on" sensor light , some ABS furphy , fixed by Perth HD ( after a bit of "please explain to them" from HD Oz.)

BUT these days I think maybe "warranty" has been tightened up. Last NEW bike I bought was in 2008.

but $400 + for the first service , gimme a break. Not of my moolah !

I would give em $400 as that the first service...  and ONLY Service that the deal would do.  From then on its home services.
The first is where they should be checking for all that chit that comes loose from the factory and also if there are issues.  A fair amoutn of time they happen in the first few thousand ks

I had my first service on my 18 street glide special done here in campbelltown at a HD dealer...cost 360...now I have bolt covers on my motor and not one was removed when I picked the bike up I asked what gets checked...the answer was just critical fastners...i thought every nut and bolt should have been checked for that price...

An included 1st service to do all the stuff shady suggests could potentially save the dealer / HD thousands in warranty claims / heartache with the brand in the long term.
I guess if you’re happy enough with the purchase price to sign on the dotted line, it doesn’t make much sense to bulk at paying them to do the first service.
I’ve only ever had my bikes serviced at the dealer or Indy whom I / they have built up good relations with and ride with the confidence the bike is in good order and any small issues can be picked up in a timely manner or fixed quickly.

From memory i paid around $450nz for my 1st service and my 2nd service about $380nz (which the dealer pretty much just changed the oil). I think Harley could do better as we pay a lot for their brand, On the 2020 softail they don't even come with an alarm or a spare fob key pretty miserable really and people wonder why the brand is in demise

Yep... I work on the theory that if its going to break it will do so in the first 5,000km.

Your bike needs to go to them every couple of years or at least someone who has the right equipment to change the brake fluid. My understanding is the ABS unit doesn't like old fluid and can cost a lot if its not changed.

Taking my 2020 107 Low Rider for its first service tomorrow. Harley Heaven quoted $450 for it and Morgan & Wacker wanted $290. Not sure what the difference is…

Also strongly consider finding a good independent shop as usually cheaper and better although first service at dealer might be better
