Taking my 2020 107 Low Rider for its first service tomorrow. Harley Heaven quoted $450 for it and Morgan & Wacker wanted $290. Not sure what the difference is…

The difference is about 3 cartons of beer.
I know which of those 2 places I'd be going to, burp!.
1st service, who ever does it has a big list of things to check set out in the service manual. Usually 2 of those things get done, the engine oil and filter.
Providing the person who does the service is a qualified bike mechanic it should not void your warranty.

From memory my 2011 Softail User Manual said to check and adjust steering head bearings on first service.  Theres no way they would of done that at my dealer.  You have to take the brake line, throttle cable and clutch cable off my bike to do the fall away test, I know Ive done it.  I imagine some different models are even harder.

When you say "adjust" - what are you actually adjusting? and what special tools are required?

    Cheers

You are adjusting the amount of play in the steering head bearings.
Buying the service manual is one of the best things you can do.

First service went well, the bike is much smoother & the brakes are not squeaking. Apparently I was not braking right! Anyhow regarding price  - MW said they had a winter special going on at the time that I booked. Did not bother asking about what their regular price is..

Jesus don't they talk shit with a straight face! RT used to bait them up all the time at Snell's, pure entertainment, my head bearings on the slim needed adjustment, they didn't do it, I did, much better after, it's not hard and you have the book.

I had my first service on my 18 street glide special done here in campbelltown at a HD dealer...cost 360...now I have bolt covers on my motor and not one was removed when I picked the bike up I asked what gets checked...the answer was just critical fastners...i thought every nut and bolt should have been checked for that price...

An included 1st service to do all the stuff shady suggests could potentially save the dealer / HD thousands in warranty claims / heartache with the brand in the long term.

I guess if you’re happy enough with the purchase price to sign on the dotted line, it doesn’t make much sense to bulk at paying them to do the first service.
I’ve only ever had my bikes serviced at the dealer or Indy whom I / they have built up good relations with and ride with the confidence the bike is in good order and any small issues can be picked up in a timely manner or fixed quickly.

Well that dealer in Cambelltown ( ah a big Sy)
Went down hill when Sy passed away, back then they were at Moorebank / Liverpool.
