Anyone running an S&S625 cam in their SG/RG?
Bike goes in for build on Wednesday and Im leaning toward the 625 as it fits my riding style, however theres heaps of brands/options.
Just wanted some first hand experience

Hey Nath 103, be sure your compression ratio is above 10:1 or they wont work as good as they should. Ran 625g in my 117", dyno'd 126.4 HP, 125.37 TQ but still didn't seem to work as well as a 113 build i did with the same cams with 10.5 :1 pistons. Tried Woods tw400g-7 with impressive results, heaps of TQ starting about 1800 RPM but run out of legs on top end power & are noisy as. Going back to 625's and aiming for 10.5 - 10.7 compression ratio which my dyno bloke and I think will make a heap of differance to cam performance.

The S&S625 is an excellent cam for given applications. Anything in the 100-110cuin area with 10.75:1 comp and heads over 160cfm@10"@.600" or 270cfm@28"@.600" will give excellent broad torque. 95" needs a little higher comp 10.85:1 and over 110 around 10.6:1. This cam is getting too small for over 117" for a broad spread of torque. This cam in a 124" would need l0.5:1 or less and would make pretty decent low down torque but would not have particularly long legs in the upper rev range.
This cam would be one of the most used by me.

There is no one cam for all seasons, as an engine gets bigger, the cam looks smaller, conversely, as the engine size shrinks the cam looks bigger to the engine.

    very good info!
my 95 had a lot of comp , heads flowed well ( but have not got the flow numbers with me right now ). but for me the Andrews 55 G & a 1 1/2" spacer between manifold & carb , plus a bit more fuel, gave me the fastest speeds in quarter mile & quickest time. but was just 95"

Fingers crossed I get the bike back tomorrow. Then the run in stage. Not 100% sure if the build will have 625 cam as I left that option open for the builder to crunch numbers with 10:5 comp and work out what will give best tq from 2700-5500rpm.

Got my bike back. Currently in run in phase with rev limiter set at 4500.
Runs strong even being detuned for the short term.
Sitting about 60/60 hp/tq and it pulls like a train, hoping to see minimum 130 hp/tq once its all run in and dynoed correctly.
    Overall main build compnents are:
    117 cyc
    89cc heads
    58mm TB
S&S 635cam, oil pump and all that jazz
    TTP variable clutch

    Final tweeks late next week.
I still need to put on a few hundred km but the cold wet weather mixed with arthritis smashed me. I did fit new wheel and tyres yesterday. Trying the Bridgestone k50s Need to scrub them in for weekend ride up the coast

Scrub in was going well until axle shifted forward and belt had too much slack and saw me pull over on the side of the M7 on way home from Wollongong.
Brother came with tools and 2 second fix to get it home. Closer inspection and so forth Ive been given the wrong spacer kit from HD so need to have a word to them about that and sort it out today

    Bikes back on deck.
    134hp 120tq.
The TBR exhaust is hurting the TQ and drops off a bit before the cam rolls on at 3500rpm, so needless to say Ill be selling a 2000km old TBR turnout exhaust once I work out what full length 2:1 system Im going to run.

Also got another surprise coming in the week or too

My question has always been - why don't the tyre manufacturers remove this silicone based release agent? Surely in this age of risk management laws it should be the case. Guys new to bikes sometimes are not made aware of the need to scrub in new tyres.
