WTF Chinese made Harley

    This was announced before the previous CEO sacked. So I guess it belongs to his years of failed "street bike appealing young rich kid" strategy. 
    He just tried to do everything to piss you (me) off. 

    On the other hand, data showed that without Chinese market, General Motor would have surely ceased to exist today. Not surprised Harley wants to do the same thing. 

    I reckon they would be more successful if they instead using Harley brand, created another Chinese brand, say...Red Dragon or Cute Panda, etc, and just replica Iron 883 nothing else under that brand. 

    I also think they would be more successful if they made an electric bike that looks like Street Bob. 

    Or even more successful if they made a rubber mount no-balancer Milwaukee 8 model. 

    Oh they are so stupid. Glad to see the head of this stupidy removed. And the first fresh air news I heard was, FXDR 114 will be removed. oh yeah!!!!

    The Chinese motorcycle market is very different to ours. They place motorcycles in the same category as bicycles. 
    You can't ride a motorcycle on the motorways for that reason. The whole time I was in Shanghai I probably saw one bike that was more than 125cc and that was a Chian Jang Ural/BMW clone with a sidecar attached. It isn't really a market that HD would play in much without a local partner to build much smaller and cheaper machines. I don't think that would match up with their brand image somehow.

    They have 44 harley dealers in China....everything harley has a 120% import tax placed on it....a street glide special is $388000 Chinese dollars or $76000 in Australian money....and even a street 500 is $80000 Chinese dollars and believe it or not they sell quite a lot of harleys...i have been to the dealer in guanzhou to have a look.

    Ive also been to a few HD dealers in South East Asia, Singapore, Vietnam, Bali and the tax is ridiculous at all of them which hugely inflates the price.

    I am currently living in Thailand, I have a few mates with Harleys here, a mate is looking at a new Sportglide, about $50 000 Aud..........Streetglide Special $72 000 Aud...............or a CVO Limited $157 950 Aud...............like car dealers here aswell the advertised price is not negotiable, all fixed prices at every dealer, negotiation is usually what extras the dealers are willing to include in the deal.


    Sportsters are very popular here, under $30 000 Aud and the Thais are more suited to this size bike.


    Thailand has banned personal imports which used be a popular way of getting a HD to Thailand.


    And would you believe motorcycles are not allowed on the motorways around Bangkok, because they say they cannot do the posted speed limits (120 kmh), this includes all bikes, even a Hayabusa lol

    Haha what’s it matter? Your ‘US’ Harley is probability 50-70% Chinese parts anyway ‘assembled’ in the US.
    The Thai market get kit bikes assembled locally to avoid a lot of taxes, bmw do similar.

    Your Union made with pride in the US with good ole US steel and Pabst drinking blue collar workers is a marketing myth.

    I went to the Ducati factory, big dirty building with 60yo nonnas dropping valves into heads, sauced up factory workers staggering back to the workshop after a long Italian lunch at the pub, nothing romantic about it.

    In old day’s we used to worry if our Harleys had parts that came from Japan.
    Who cares , as if you don’ t  like it don’t buy. No need to cry!

    Where is the Harley Davidson factory located?
    Harley-Davidson manufactures its motorcycles at factories in York, Pennsylvania; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Kansas City, Missouri (closing); Manaus, Brazil; and Bawal, India. Construction of a new plant in Thailand began in late 2018.

    Well yes its really happened....HD X350 and X500 is manufactured by Quinjiang in China. HD are also looking at them to manufacture some of their "bigger" bikes as well.

    Its a interesting question....if you think about it we are the same here in Aust regarding our relationship with China. They are our biggest trading partner and also touted as our biggest threat. In the unlikely event of a China v Usa conflict we would most likely be involved under our Australia-United States defence alliance.

    S&S sold of their X wedge motor to Hisun who have now put the 121 cuber into a tourer, cruiser, trike and a kinda can am looking trike. Styling was done by the same mob who do CF Moto and KTM designing. Possibility these could come to Aust via CF Moto.

    Hd have just released two new Chinese built Lams bikes here in Oz. The X350 and X500,this brings Hd back into the Lams game after the Street 500 was discontinued. When available the Street 500 was Hd best selling bike.

    That absolutely blows me out! You ever ride one? I dropped my bike off for brake flush a few years back an they gave me the 750 version to get home, it was horrendous, the old 750/4 was a far better bike from 40 years ago! These might be better......maybe.

    I did have the misfortune of riding one....my mate who has just bought, and returned his Pan America started out on one as a learner. So hard to curb someone's enthusiasm and excitement about their first bike and pride and joy, but it was terrible to ride and the quality was terrible! Those bikes were built in India. These new models don't look a great deal better quality wise either, doesn't stop HD asking more money than any of the competition though!
