131 SE Engine...

    Question: does the SE 131 engine fit into the 2019 Fat Bob? Just dreaming but curious for a future project maybe. Anyone done this?

    Maybe this helps???? It says touring style frame?? I guess that does not mean soft tail???

    I have no idea how much that donk costs... BUT if I was dropping a LOT of cash on a motor it would always be an S&S and not a SE.

    Fark me.... Bloody quality seems to have dropped.  I'm out of date though as my experience is in the old 96" Evo S&S motors back in the day.
    I guess its all about Warrenty and Support if you have problems...Who has the better aftersales reputation then.

    I’m thinking no one in Aus had done this as it’s just plain stupid. 
    I realise Mesmer posted it as a bit of a rhetorical question but the bigger question is 
    What do you want to achieve?
    I’d be thinking there are cheaper, more reliable ways to peel the rubber off your tyres.

    Hi Ratbob, indeed it was at this stage just a rhetorical question. From my research it seems that there are differences between the engines for the Fat Bob and those of the Touring models. Seems like the casings are different and also, surprisingly, the internals. Even though they may both be 114ci they are quite different. Hence the 131 wont fit the Fat Bob.

    That being said I've seen photos of a 131 being installed in an FXDR. And I kow of one in a Low Rider S so presumably it can be done?

    Why would I want to do it? Well, firstly torque and secondly I'd like to have the 120hp of the bike engine. The 114 is good to a point but it does run out of steam at the top end of the rev range. At this point it's totally just an idea, but maybe at some point in the future, funds allowing. Of course if it doesn't fit then it's back to the drawing board.

    Anyone want to buy my 690 Duke to fund this? LOL

    Just had a reply from my local Harley dealer, apparently the 131 will fit! But is it worth the 10K!!!

    If 120hp is your number you want you dont have to go the whole hog of getting a motor , there are several kits that will get you there/ close. Get onto a reputable builder and listen to their advice.

    There are builders and assemblers, some people simply bolt things together other ensure the correct tolerances are adhered to.

    Yeah Mesmer it can be a long and trying process. We’ve all heard the success and horror stories, I admire your drive if you give it a go.
    I assume the 10grand they quoted you was for the case engine alone, not installed and tuned, even if it was I’d take Tussuck’s crazy advice and go turbo, jeeze they look mean too and come sell time, you can pull em off.

    Yeh I've seen bikes with only a stage 2 hit those numbers mate. But if you are determined to spend $10K, a company called Leading Edge in the states make a 151" kit.

    I'd like to point out, you can't really notice HP ( other than it will get you to a higher speed ) but what you mostly feel is Torque as that thrusts you forward, so I'd never sacrifice Torque for HP ( it is why I like Harleys! )

    Exactly! Torque is what most of us are chasing, I know that's what I'm looking for out of the cam upgrade I'm looking at doing...

    So very true. I once owned a Kaswasaki GPz900R that claimed 115 HP @ 9500RPM. All nice for bragging rights, but to see that you had to be well and truly on the wrong side of the law or on a track. I'd rather have power where I can use it and that generally means more torque. 
    My M8 Softail doesn't technically have as much power, but it still leaves the traffic behind without breaking a sweat. I only need to go over about 3500 RPM if I'm overtaking a caravan or something. Would still like a Stage 2 kit though.

    Power determines how fast you 'slam into' the brick wall,
    Torque determines how far you 'plough through & how many bricks you take with you' of same brick wall.

    And Ross has nailed it. Wtf spend all this extra cash on engine upgrades. To feel good?  Get bragging rights? Worry that you got the best parts at the cheapest price? As an excuse to bag the mechanic?
    No one ever comes up to you in the street (or me anytime for that matter hehe) and goes “oooiihhhh. Stage 2!”
    Spend some cash on bling if you like. But 3500 rpm on the open road is all you need most of the time. The bikes just make travelling sooo easy.
