I am putting together a 1985 FXEF for a mate. He pulled it apart over 20 years ago and after having a bad crash on another bike, some mates and I are putting his FXEF together for him so he will have something to ride when he finally is fit enough to ride. Everything seems to be going back together OK however I am having trouble working out where the Starter Relay is bolted/fastened to. I am talking about the "Starter Relay" and not the "Starter Solenoid". The bike is a cross over model with an Evo cylinders/top end and a Shovelhead bottom end and primary. I think the Relay should be located somewhere under the battery but I am unable to work exactly where. Does anyone have a 1985 FXEF that they can take a photo of the starter relay position and post it so I can see where it goes.

Unfortunately tussuck the FXEF doesn't have side covers. There is the oil tank on the left and the battery on the right hand side. I am pretty sure that the relay goes under the battery but can not work out where it would actually bolt to.

Ah.....worth a thousand words.

I thought I would post a couple of photos so that people would have a better idea what I am talking about. The relay is circled in red. I can not find any bracket or even bolt holes where it might bolt to. The cables and dirt would suggest that it may bolt down under the gear box but, again, there is nothing to bolt it to.

Try this.... Its a 77 model but the part looks the same.

Finally found out where the starter relay goes on the FXEF so I thought I would post some photos so that if anyone else needs to know the location of the relay then they can see for themselves. The relay is located under the gearbox mounting plate. Thanks to everyone that replied to my original post.
