Gidday all … am hoping some of you intelligent folks can confirm something or point me in the right direction … I have been Very Bad and have been neglecting my 99 Springer , since I got my 17 RG … so I got around to digging her out recently and did a Handle Bar change , all went well … having been sitting for approximately a year and a half without being started .. I know not good .. I removed plugs and put in 5 th gear and made sure there was no seizing or motor lock up .. just wanted to be sure .. all good .

Started up no worries … this is the issue .. runs great but is pissing out fuel out of the overflow and not just dripping , full flowing all over the floor … So I am fairly sure the Old fuel is making the Needle and seat stick and is not letting the Float in the Carbie bowl work correctly … 42 Mil Mikuni is what I am running .

Have done the whole tapping on the side of the bowl to see if that would free it up but with no luck … is there likely to be any other possible reasons for the overflow before I get into the whole pulling the carbie off to clean it out … for example I don't think I did but when I removed and replaced tanks when doing Handlebar change would pinching the breather hoses be a possible contender for the overflow or am I just clutching at straws .

Would running some sort of Carbie / fuel cleaner be of any good … I did put new fuel in her after the tank replacement but the sticking needle and seat issue … if of course that what it is … more than likely happened with the Old fuel sitting in there all that time .

Appreciate any comments … Cheers .

TJU what has happened , is you have left the pet cock ( I did not name it!! ) or gas tap turned on, & probably like you said has dirt under needle seat. And standing like that your whole motor ( cases ) full of fuel. as soon as you see fuel come out the breather, you shut them down and don't run the motor again till you drain all the fuel out the cases. then you drain all your oil, as it is diluted in fuel. And get new oil same as normal oil change. when that happened to me I was away for a weekend, left the fuel tap on, filled up the shovels Delcron cases with fuel, & it was a 98" shovel that was kick start only. it was hard to turn over, when I finally got it to fire up like you fuel came out the breather hose, I shut it down. the Delcron cases had a drain plug in them, so I pulled the plug out and drained fuel out the cases, then drained oil tank got new oil. you EFI riders look for your pet cock! LOL
    cheers

    Gidday Gents …

Retroman … you got to love a repair that doesn't cost anything … plus it was a good learning experience … now to just find a place to fit the Fuel Filter .

Hog63 … probably a few months yet , maybe a year or so but I am going to be selling the Beast … Having recently retired I have to be careful with the pennies and I can only ride one Bike at a time … so the ever patient wife tells me , Lol … 2 rego`s , insurance , maintenance and wear and tear are unfortunately not something I can afford in my Elder years .

Baloffski and Brucefxdl … thanks for the comments … always welcomed .

Jay-Dee … thanks for the hook up with Custom Motorcycle Company … will definitely check them out it there is anything else that comes up .

Now to get her out for a few Blast on some of the Lovely .. while a tad bumpy .. back Country roads we have out this way .

Cheers all for the advice and comments .

always happy to offer support TJU,even if it doesnt help much.good to see a positive result and an economical one at that.cheers
