rear tyre punctured (again)

Three months since I got this bike, not to mention virus break working from home period, my rear tyre, two Dunlop GT502 so far, got punctured in same area.
I know this particular area got more factories, more tradies around, therefore could be more dropped/thrown out bolts and screws on the road, but I have been riding through it on my 883 (shinko) tyres for a year on same schedule, no incident.

Last time the dunlop got punctured, it was a screw at my 5 year old son's finger size; this time, it looks like a bolt. I mean, nothing sharp, this type of tyres just sucked them in.

Is this bad luck or its about rubber? Dunlop GT502 is a high quality, good handling tyre, but maybe its not for the commute style I have?

I went through a similar experience when I worked on site and a wastewater treatment plant that was being upgraded. Picked up tech screws, self tappers, all sorts of crap that had fallen off trucks and tradie's utes.
Not a lot to be done about it except carry a plug kit and pump with you.

    Definitely bad luck !!!
Just remember ,,, Your have had two,,,, bad luck comes in three's …. Looks like even if you put wooden wheels on your bike, you are unlucky enough to have a puncture …..

Know how you feel, but don't think anyone could say.
I've had a good run & for the distance I've covered, I don't think I've been unlucky . I think they need to solve the problem of things falling off tradies Utes .

As a personal action to take, make sure you ride in the wheel tracks, then hopefully the screw is in someone else's tyre and not yours.

Good point, I always ride in the wheel tracks so hopefully don't hit oil leaks ( mostly at traffic build up spots )
thought I would also mention I've never had a flat with a Mountain Bike tat has spoke wheels & it's tubeless , I put this tyre sealant in, every 6 months to ensure it has not dried out. but no idea if can use on a MC tyre.

I've heard it can cause balance issues.

A mate bought a Triumph Daytona and it was one of the first bikes with a stupidly big back tyre .
He had the bike for less than three years and had to fix over 20 punctures. 23 I think.
All on the back tyre.  He got real good at whipping the wheel off and shoving in a mushroom plug.
He reckoned he would only plug them 3 times and then chuck the tyre .
Still dont know for sure why it happened but I reckon some tyres are just shit.

My theory is some rubbers are designed to give rider a good feel, good handling etc, therefore might be softer.
I put another one in anyway, Dunlop GT 502 for wide glide. It does feel great than others. But I told my local shop, if it got punctured again this year, I will definitely go back to shinko.

Shinko got punctured once too on my other bike, by a small sharp nail, which is understandable. But this one, like you said, a mushroom plug was sucked in.

    This vid looks scary
