Back on a harley

Hi there peoples. So anyway I owned an 82 wide glide shovel for several years back in the mid 90s and I used to ride it everywhere and maintained it myself because I just like it that way. I sold that one for a boat believing that I would someday own another.I had a few dirtbikes, supersport and dualsport bikes since just doing what my son wanted to do for a few years but recently the wife and I decided that it was time to consolidate all those regos into one bike and that it should be a Harley.I proceeded to update myself on what had been happening since I last owned one and soon discovered that my worst fears had come true .What had first drawn me to Harley Davidson all those years ago was the basic simplicity of their engines and the ease with witch one could care and maintain them and this had been replaced with a complicated array of twin cams ,chains, sprockets, balancers , computers, fuel pumps, injectors, sensors and all sorts of things that required going to the shop. I soon stopped researching the new and decided that what I wanted was another shovel or an Evo and I ended up with the latter. I know that my introduction might sound like a rant but I don't think so it's each to his own as far as I am concerned and I think that by reading this you might have gained a small insight into my character.
    Regards Philbo.

I know where you're at. I took a long break after starting on a '42 WLA, '82 Sportster,  then an '86 Softail that I put 180,000 ks on and rode it all over Oz. Sold it when my daughter was due in 1994. Kept riding, Triumph 955i Daytona, Suzuki DR, finally picked up a TC Widey in Dec. 17.

Yeah, different bikes entirely. It's not all bad, it's the same as cars, had a series of HQ, HJ, HX Monaros in the early '80's, and own a VE SS today.

Love the anti-lock brakes and built-in security systems, hate the loss of carbies and the ability to turn your lights on and off at will.

Handling and power is better on later models, styling and roadside fixability better on the old.

I've just done the cams in my Widey at home, now a bit lumpier so idles more like an Evo. There's a little more attention to detail and some special tools required but it's all easy enough with a manual and Youtube.

    Nice Softy.
