    Hi,
This is Rinehart Cross back on Dyna.
Any idea what could cause the problem?

Here's what I did several days before I found this:
    1. commuted everyday, started in early morning around 0 to 1 degree.
    2. use car wash liquid and pressure water spray to wash the bike.

Very sorry to see M. I'd say what's happened is the high pressure water has gotten into those cracks, laid under the paint, perhaps frozen and then expanded when hot, blowing off the finish. You can see the cracks in the paint

So..I shouldn't use pressure water spray to wash at all? I think lots of people use it to wash bikes?
Other part of the bikes are no problem.

I use a pressure washer on both my bikes. I let the soap suds sit there for quite a while and then PW. I am careful (ie back away) around bearings (now spokes as I caused rust on the inside of a rim) painted areas and electronics. My pipes are chrome so not the potential to blow the paint off or water in.
I reckon you could get away with a light sand with wet and dry and pot black or high temp black paint. Those are cooked so anything to give them longer life before you replace (or not)

Yes, new from Harley Heaven, Ringwood. They sourced it from Rollies.

I am going to say its possibly related to the tune. Twin cams run hot anyway and without knowing whats done to the bike other than seeing the a/c thinking its running lean

Im certainly no expert, but I would say the paint/costing is failing; perhaps due to an issue with the metal prep underneath.
I would see about returning them to Rollies and see what happens.

Yes +1, Rinehart has a good name and should stand behind their product, this is a heat shield so just demand a replacement one

No just more air and not the equivalent more amount of fuel maybe causing the bike to run leaner. This in turn makes the exhaust run hotter transferring that additional heat to the cover pushing the coating to beyond its limit causing it to fail.

How did a dodgy paint job thread turn into a " running too lean , check your tune thread? "
Who started that shit?  Thats right ...... pb
Dont worry about all that air/ fuel /tune bullshit mic. Just take them back and get them replaced.

In PB's defence BB, M did ask what might have "caused the problem" in his first post. I agree that taking them back is the solution.
