Never heard of it but a quick search on one of the American forums came up with the following comments:
    - There should be a hole in the swing arm 2-3 inches forward of the axle head/nut. That's where you take your measurement from. Use a bent and sharpened piece of rod, like a coat hanger. Or use a caliper and measure to the center of the axle, both ends. Cheap and easy.

    - Bent piece of brazing rod and a zip-tie... works like a charm.

the one i made is similar, only the short side is straight with a slight point. the rod i used fits the swing arm hole neatly. easy to use with small o rings to slide along to compare to each side with the centre hole in the axle.

If you can't make your own tool to do the job then I am struggling to imagine how you could make a sandwich.

    On a lathe?.
    I'm speechless.
Surely you could make that tool using a cable tie, a coathanger and your Irish calculators that would do the job.

    Ok, fair enough.
I was referring more to the picture from a couple of replies ago of the brazing rod etc.

dyna has a hole on swingarm, it only needs a 10cm long L shape tool to do the job.

So does the FXR... The small hole in the swingarm bolt is behind a cover plate and the shape is so it fits past factory pipes etc.
