Interesting stuff  FC.   Who would have thought David Attenborough  knew anything about bikes.
A mate had an FJ 1200  that used to do something similar.
We were heading across the Nullarbor and he was either doing 150 or 220 kph. I was on a GPZ 1000 RX and the sweet spot for my bike was around 200 kph.  We swapped bikes a few times on that trip and we came to the conclusion it was the fairing on the FJ that was causing the handle bar / front wheel wobble.  I tried lying on the tank but it made no difference cos there was a fairing in front of me that was causing the problem.

i had a yam fjr 1300  that used to get a stearing wobble around 80kph.. took a while to realize it was the top box that was causing the problem

Trumpy at 80kph (and other speeds).
    Loose headstem bearings.

Oh, and under-inflated tyres. That’ll do it.

My 87 FJ1200 was front tyre sensitive, both pressure and wear, was rock solid flat out though, was a dark blue flash.

Yep, Same for me a 850 Susuki with mini fairing wobble at about 160KM no problem with fairing off.
Have never got a wobble out of my Roadking 2006 both with original windscreen and bat wing. had it up to 200 kmh across NT and no wobble.
We used to hear stories of the "harley" wobble in hard cornering caused by the rubber mounts in tourers,( I believe it was the earlier models with a different compound rubber in the mounting at the pivot point.) I fitted a true track anyway.
