Yep well said - very sad indeed - "I have many words that I could use to describe him. But I simply just despair at what our society/social media can in some cases produce."

Must have been an absolutely horrific scene for the police, ambulance, fire/rescue & tow truck responders. My thoughts are with the families of deceased police members - and for the responders to process it all.
As for the 41 year old car driver involved that allegedly took photos of the devastating, graphic scene, ran away then shared those photos - I have many words that I could use to describe him. But I simply just despair at what our society/social media can in some cases produce.

Tragic incident. I have no word for the lowlife that photographed and posted it on his facebook...

Hopefully they throw the book at the pond scum. Not that they will comment but I do wonder if the 40kph past flashing lights contributed to the accident or the truck driver f*&%ked up.

There's alot of speculation around of course. But yes, a common thought is that the possibility of traffic slowed right down passing at the initial scene, then a distracted/inattentive trucky suddenly swerving to avoid the slowdown - full speed onto the breakdown lane collecting them all.
Truck driver not injured but understandably suffers a medical episode at the scene, admitted to hospital, sedated. His side of story may be a few of days away.

Just reading some of the comments on the Porsche forums. Many are asking questions about the car involved, mostly regarding the rego number. The driver is from Melbourne driving a Qld registered car with the rego LLC 001 which happens to be the same plate number that a Melbourne luxury car dealership that sells Porsches uses. It's been spotted driving at high speed around the same area for a number of months. Driver is known as a drug dealer in the area so maybe the plates are to confuse people into thinking it's the dealership's car.

an incident like what happened in  Melbourne last night certainly makes you think about things.
I can relate to it cos something similar happened to me a couple of years ago.
I was driving up the M1 towards Newcastle with 33 tons of coal in the back of my truck and I was following the truck in front of me but my truck was going slightly faster so I was waiting for a break in the outside lane to overtake him. Just as I pulled out into the outside lane the truck in front pulled a radical left into the emergency lane and there was a queue of stationary traffic less than 100 meters ahead in the left hand lane. The traffic had came to a standstill on  the freeway because of a minor scrub fire on the median strip.
If I hadnt been overtaking at that exact moment in time I reckon I would have drove straight in to the stationary cars.
At the time I just thought "fuck, that was lucky" but when I got home that afternoon I could not stop thinking about it.
If I hadnt decided to overtake that truck at that exact moment there would have been fatalities. Keep safe everyone.

This sounds pretty plausible to me.
The 40km/h around emergency vehicles is a dumb fucking rule, especially on a 100km/h multi lane freeway. Very well intentioned in theory but you have to take into account the attention capabilities of the average drone in charge of a vehicle.

Thank Christ we don't have it here in Queensland yet but I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

The court today heard the mortgage broker from Fitzroy allegedly told a dying Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor: “There you go. Amazing. Absolutely amazing. All I wanted to do was go home and have my sushi. Now you’ve f****ed my f***ing car,” AAP reports.

Hard to believe people like that walk amongst us. He is an oxygen thief, he has convincingly proven that he does not belong in a considerate & compassionate society. He will be without his beloved social media for some time now - existing in a place where the lifestyle is not what he is accustomed to.

Umm i wish i had the same faith in the system as you....sadly its not a crime to be a dispicable human being or have no moral compass. It is interesting though that he still had a financial services lic after his prior convictions

Section 64 of the Road Safety Act makes it an offence to drive dangerously in the state of Victoria. The penalty is a maximum of two years imprisonment with a mandatory minimum period of disqualification from driving of six months.

Yes, but I do have faith that the cops will throw absolutely everything at him, I would also say that he has numerous previous offences. Given the high public interest I would hope the magistrate makes an example of him. It is pure luck he hasn't killed anyone directly before all this.
