Who is telling lies about Chinese investments in Australia

    I am currently living in Thailand, here foreigners cannot own land point blank, though we can lease land here.
    Why cant Australia follow this simple idea ?, 10 or 15 year leases and then Australia can review, cancel lease or up the rent................to me this is the way to go for Australia's future.

    Fucking rightly so, I know Pauline goes of a Tangent a lot of the time but I`m sure she has Australia`s best interest at heart big wool exporter`s should not get preference  or even any fucker  out side of  Oz...tell em fuck em !

    100% agree, for some reason as a nation we don’t want to offend anyone. 
    It’s ludicrous, as someone trying to run businesses overseas we were always confronted buy our inability to purchase land, but we got on with it. Indonesia is the worst. 
    YES, stop ALL foreign ownership of essential services especially the food chain.

    There are to many do gooders lobbying for our values and lifestyle to change to suit their own agenda. If you mention anything about a Asian person your a xenophobe, any thing about an indigenous person your racist. People just get sick of being shouted down for airing their view so we choose to look the other way and now these pro Chinese activists are still actively seeking opportunities in Australia.

    But say you have a property up for sale, and you get offered double, I don't think you would care if they came from Mars, you would take the $.

    The reason is we let foreigners buy land here. 
    That’s an Australian decision. 
    I don’t like it all but can’t blame them when we are that dumb and greedy.

    The reality is not Chinese bidding double. The reality is many assets like the one cannot find a non-Chinese buyer at all, either local or someone from EU or US or Japan or other part of Asia. 
    I used to be a partner in a small financial firm, I have some stories to share. 

    Story 1, a Chinese listed company bought a farm somewhere the border of NSW and VIC. The owner wanted to sell the farm and retire. Their kids have no interest in being a farmer anymore. The property has been listed for 7 years already, no serious enquiry until Chinese came. 

    Story 2, a similar mansion like the OP one. Co-owned by several Chinese owners, sold by a retired lawyer couple. Before it was sold, it's been obsolete for 15 years or the owner has been trying to sell it for 15 years. I once walked around the property, there was a near collapse shed at the corner of land. I walked in, saw couple of dusty cans lying down on the wooden floor, obviously not touched by anyone for years. I picked one, saying something like "High quality paint....Made in Australia.....1933". I felt like time traveling. 

    Story 3, a reward winning winery outside Melbourne, the owner couple bought it $40,000 when they were young. Now they are approaching retirement and wanted to sell 1.6 million in 2012, no luck till 2018 as far as I know. The property valuation increased every year, but only Chinese go visit them. 

    Story 4, we had a meeting with a venture capital firm, a top one in Australia. This firm is raising funds for many high-end healthcare projects, from stem cell to cancer drugs etc. Those projects, if successful, will all bring big fame to the country. You know what were these boys talking about in the meeting? Chinese. They gave an education on everyone about how immigration policy works. Basically, a Chinese spend 1.50 million so they can get visa to live in Australia. This 1.5 million, must be spent on government-endorsed projects, their projects. A new guy from our firm asked, "hey, why we were all talking about Chinese? not US not EU investors? at least Asia is not everything China?" Everybody in the meeting looked at him like "is this guy new in the town or something" (he was new). Only one guy barely answered, "there is none".    

    Replacing China as our trading partner? sure, if we can find another 5xUS or 2.5xJapan on this planet. Vietnam, 1/14 of China, wouldn't help much right? By 2018 or 2019, China has become Australia's first research partner aside from "trading partner". So in the future, we are going to witness a big split between Australia's economic interest vs ideological interest. You will get either peace of mind or peace of pocket no way both.

    And so it just keeps churning on this giant Chinese wave taking our assetts.....The Australian company Afterpay has announced a substantial new shareholder....tencent.
    Tencent is the world's largest video game company, one of the world's most valuable companies, one of the world's largest social media companies, and one of the world's largest venture capital firms and investment corporations.....origin..China.     Well brother it is the fault of previous govts that opened up the flood gates for foreign companies to buy up any thing they wanted, yep the govt called it a level playing field and free trade with overseas.
    Yep the polititions of the day and their pockets filled with $$$$$$$$$$$$$ as a reward.
    Both sides are guilty, yep they removed all import protections, well for Aussie companies this was the death nell.
    Look up at what we have lost in the last 30 or so years and weep.
    Here are a few

    King Gee (china)
    cars
    clothing male and female.
    Biscuits 
    Local engineering/manufacturing shops
    foot wear/boots
    white goods (friges etc)
    push bikes
    every town had their own local soft drink factories, now just Coke and the other shit.
    corner shops 
    corner suburb butcher shops
    Go to Bunnings and look at the product that you buy and in the small print it says "Made in China or the peoples republic of China"
    99% of tools etc are made there.
    Most were made here.

    Do I need to go on.

    Yep been on this planet or flat  earth for over 71 years seen it all.
