i remember when the sturgis came out [ not the year or date, but around 79/80 i think ] a few mates and i were having a beer when of them said ,the sturgis is coming and i'm going to get one.he put his empty pot down, said no more beers until i have the bike and didnt have a beer till he had the bike, saved hard lived and quiet for a fair while...but got his bike and it did look the goods.
that is not very original, they had black wheels with a thin red band on the outer rim, air cleaner was gloss black the paint was gloss black with out any pin striping, & had red bar & shield sticker on the tank. the pipe was two into one factory pipe, the cam cover gloss black rockers wrinkle black. primary was gloss black
Maybe they came out in 2 different colours Krash?
The original Sturgis 1981 only came in the one colour FC think it was limited ( this was the 80 inch Shovel Sturgis
they came out in 1981, they looked good. but they used to break the primary belt ( if you road a lot ) that's why todays new Harleys don't have a primary belt drive they all use chains. Belts don't like to be sealed in they need to have ventilation . the sturges belt was sealed in on primary. daddyracer56 has one that looks like new & very original, I think he was going to sell it.
I saw one of these back in the early 90's, I was bouncing around on my first HD an 86 sporty, I can't remember what pipes were on it, but I thought they were great, would still like one now.
Willie, please make them like this again!!!!
Looks like the 1982 one to me. It has the badge on the front guard celebrating HD taking back over from AMF.
