    Good one Bruce.
I remember reading a review of the new model Sturgis in a magazine during a lunch break doing my apprenticeship.
I think they cost about 8 grand then.
I was earning about $70 a week. May have been riding a Honda 175 or 250 at the trime.
    Just dreaming.
    They are still out there.

they came out in 1981, they looked good. but they used to break the primary belt ( if you road a lot ) that's why todays new Harleys don't have a primary belt drive they all use chains. Belts don't like to be sealed in they need to have ventilation . the sturges belt was sealed in on primary. daddyracer56 has one that looks like new & very original, I think he was going to sell it.

Before the Sturgis came out, i built this 69 Genny Shovel in all satin black in 79, the amount of times guys said i copied the Sturgis was irritating.
I sold a 81 Sturgis that i had in parts but could not find time to build it in the early 90's , poor decision number one, poor decision number two was when i was offered a 91 Sturgis at a very good price and declined, poor decision number three was selling my Bad Boy.
Sturgis was only ever made in one colour.
    Cheers.

'81 sounds good,i left colac in mid '82.his bike had the fine red trim on the wheels, cant remember a lot of the fine detail on the bike now.a sealed belt would run very warm. the drive belts on the gators we sell end up with blocked air intakes and cook belts pretty quick and are'nt fully sealed. i remember his smile when he showed us, he thought hes pretty good and so did we....lol

That’s where it all started for me! As a young boy sitting on the tank of my dads 82.
He still has it, will be a good project for me one day. Won’t be a small one though, the thing is rough.

I saw one of these back in the early 90's, I was bouncing around on my first HD an 86 sporty, I can't remember what pipes were on it, but I thought they were great, would still like one now.

Looks like the 1982 one to me.  It has the badge on the front guard celebrating HD taking back over from AMF.

Could be 1982 as I was going off real time from memory, the yanks start a new year before it happens.
I remember Frazer's took over the old Dealership of Berling & Simons on Parramatta Road  while AMF where still running the show, (a side note) Old Jack at Redfern Motor Cycles used to be the NSW Harley Dealer before AMF & Berlo's had to get there new bikes from Jack. then Berlo's got the NSW dealership when AMF came in Jack did not want anything to do with AMF. then about two years before AMF sold the company back Frazer's got Berlo's old shop. timing was perfect as soon after Harley had there boom year's. & was not long and EVO came out & first EVO 4 speed softail, they also had some XR1000's with the twin carb & 2-2 supertrapp high pipes.

They came out in '80 and ran until '82, then came back in '91 with the introduction of the Dyna, the '91 is my favourite as they are really rare, not unlike the 80-82 models, which you will find always advertised somewhere, for some reason the 80-82 Sturgis command top dollar, but in reality they are common nowadays if you compare them with the standard fxe and fxef models, the fxe and fxef's in original trim are as scarce as hens teeth,
