A decent painter can match the paint. They did with my lowers.

I was told by a local smash repairer that the only source of paint for anything after 2010 is HD themselves, having decided not release the formulas or specs.

Change your painter. It can be colour matched and he is correct about the formula not being freely available. There was a link some time ago on the forum regarding the formulas

I bought a memphis shades batwing fairing for my road king.
    It comes Black,
my roadking is Glacier white pearl.
So to get it painted correct colour, i talked to my brother who is a spray painter.
he said you need the base colour , the pearl to add. and then the clear coat.
I went to INSPIRATIONS here in bundaberg, and inquired about harley colours.
They told me they have the formula , and made it up for me. 3 tins as above.
    When painted it matched perfectly.
So if you have Inspirations paint shop near you try them. worked for me.

    Quote source removed.
Problem with automotive finishes is that the colour matching computer can't tell a pearl from a metallic or a candy. It can't tell you how many different layers went into the result or what colour they were.
In the case of twisted cherry its only a single layer with a clear coat, but apparently it's still a struggle to get right without the code.

Exactly and not something I'd have been entirely comfortable with doing myself, although I have a spray gun and a compressor. I put the textured black on with a rattle can and got a pretty good result.

Ross, same boat as you. Have Peerless 14 Comp. and guns, but hey rattle can does the job.
And that does look good, are you or have you thought of rattle can clear? well done man.

No,  just one more coat of the black when the weather clears and I'm done. Then need to do the other side to match.

And here we have the final result, HD badge reattached, left bag painted to match and both bags installed on the bike.
Today I went out for some much needed Vitamin Twin during which I took these pics.

A few coffees for some paint vs $389 for a new lid and improved durability and repairability as well. Very satisfied.
