Fork slider trim on Sporty Custom, how do you remove it?

The fork sliders on my Sportster are starting to look a bit ordinary, chipped clear coat, a bit of corrosion.
I'm left with 3 viable alternatives - paint, polish or replace.

My son in law has stripped & polished the forks on his Night Train & they look great, probably my preferred option.

The question is how do you remove the chrome trim at the top of the slider without mutilating it?
Does it screw on, firm press fit, some sort of adhesive?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hope this helps...

    From:
“We noticed a small gap, in the back inside area like a slot for a screwdriver, between the aluminum lowers and the covers so we tried prying them apart but they did not budge and we don't want to damage them. Is there a special way or method of removing/separating them from the aluminum lower part? Any help would be appreciated.”
“That's exactly what the "gap" is there for. Instead of prying, angle your (small) screwdriver in the slot so it's pointed towards the cap and then tap on the butt of the screwdriver with a mallet, driving the cap upwards.”

Thanks HOG63, exactly the information I need!
With the coronavirus situation & work on the go-slow I suddenly have some time on my hands
to do projects like this.  I have a feeling there will be some very shiny Harleys on the road when
    this mess is finally over!
