Good pic bd. Wish I had them around and would welcome them to my back verandah if I could too.

T, Cockatoos would be better than half the shit the Chinese are eating.  And I reckon you’d get a bit of meat off them. No shortage of the white ones where I am. They’re around in massive packs and look like they know how to party

Where I was living overseas, locals would eat this big native bird called a horn bill. It almost looks a bit like a dinosaur and has these really big fucken wings. Locals would slingshot them in trees and in the sky and hit them and they’d be a good feast for a family. They look like this

No eating mate, was trying to get a few pics of the wedgetailed eagles that have been loitering around in unusually big numbers lately.
Fair dinkum, there is lots of them.
I think they are feasting and flourishing on all the dead wallabies that get run over on the roads.
There is a veritable wallaby plague going on here.
Picked a few dead ones (wallabies) up off the roadside and put em out front in the paddock so the wedgies can eat em without getting hit by a car.

It would be impressive if you could get a photo of the wedgetails.
Whats the reason for the wallaby plague?

Been living in the same place since 89. You never saw a wallaby for years and if you did someone would shoot it. Hey, it's a rural area and everyone seemed to have a gun. At the time you could just lob into the gun shop in town and buy an automatic military gun with swags of ammo if you could walk and fart at the same time and ask what gun you wanted to buy. No license needed.
When the idiot shot all the people at Port Arthur the gun rules changed big time. Now people are scared to fire a gun in case they are too close to the nearest house etc. Maybe not a bad thing in a lot of ways but the upshot is that the wallabies are thick on the ground.

I remember they days well. I  walked into a gun shop in Queensland and bought a SKK.
The bloke said would you like a scope on it or would you prefer two 30 rounds banana clips.
I took about 1 second to think about it and said gimme the fukin banana clips.
We took that weapon out into the desert and let loose.
My mate explained things to me that day after I shot a wallaby.

There is an upside to this lockdown .
My front gate has been a bit wonky for as long as I can remember so I thought I might fix it this morning.
When I started making a racket the next door neighbour came out and asked me what I was doing.
He disapearred and came back a minute later with a big fuck off crow bar . The bloke across the street came and had a look and picked up the crowbar and started smashing up the driveway.
The other next door neighbour came and had a look and said you need a decent metal  bracket. I will go and make one.
We chipped away at the concrete for a while and then sat down and had a beer.
Two hours later old mate turned up with a fuck off metal bracket and an even bigger fuck off Hilti Drill.
I will go and take a photo.

    Good one Keith.
Looks like you had a nice day there today. Miserably cold, wet and windy here, worse luck.
The good old iphones take a pretty good pic really. The one I took of the honeyeater was with a fair dinkum (15 year old) camera on full zoom from about 4 metres away.
    Cheers

Used to go snaring for Wallaby all down through the Hellyer Gorge with my old neighbor when I was young, always came home with the boot and back seat of the Fairlane full to the hilt. Great Wallaby patties afterwards and skins made the ol fella's beer money. Gun was for tiger snakes only, guess the snaring ways are getting forgotten down Tassy way now.
    Sorry, old memories rant.
