well if your all so fucking clever

    What is this from

    Bloodog,

I know you said it has no wires coming out of it but does it have anywhere where there may have been some in the past? The reason I ask is it looks like some old style mercury tilt switches I have seen but not quite the same.

The only other thing I could offer would be if it had a scale on the shaft it may be some sort of hydrometer for measuring specific gravity of liquid???

    Just some thoughts.

    Cheers

    Wade

Hey Wade and Bloodog, yeah it’s a mystery and I’m not hiding anything from you.
The handle is smooth the whole way round, no old wire or other holes to be found nor is there a scale or indicator hidden from view.
As you see it’s sealed at the end with a ring attached maybe to hang it or attach it to ya belt. When you tip it up, the mercury flows down into the handle ?
Also, unfortunately the writing on the glass is not legible.
    Certainly has me stumped too.

Just had another look at your original pics Ratrob.   You say the writing is illegible  but I  can see a couple of letters in the photos.
I think I can see AC  and some other letters.  Have you tried using a magnifying glass and had a really good look?
If you can be bothered you could take another couple of pics from different angles.
It looks like it is reasonably well made (except for the chrome peeling) so you would think it had a purpose.
Why is the mercury in there.  Wade mentioned a tilt switch and I think he might be onto something there.

Sorry can’t do more pics, it’s at a mates place about an hour away and with caring for my wife with cancer and this virus getting round I’m not willing to venture out unnecessarily, her immune system’s pretty low.
Yes the AC stands out but the rest is only parts of letters but I will take a closer look if I get the chance. Cheers

While we're on the subject, what's this (not the fucking bottle)
The gadget is very well made and seems to contain mercury which flows down into the shaft when upended.

Fair enough Rb.  I wish you and your wife the very best.
You must have a suspicion what that gadget is.  so tell us what you reckon the mercury would be rolling around in there for?

Sorry mate, I have no idea what the freaking thing’s for.

I can help here , this is a mercury assisted egg whisk. Since mercury is very heavy it helps to smash the eggs.
Alternatively it was stolen from the chem lab at Bundaberg high school in 1962
