I used to have a gadget that sat on the  shelf.  Nobody ever knew what it was until  the day I took it to the pub.
it turned out to be a range finder  from a Challenger Tank .  There was a place for a candle so you could see what you were doing  in the dark but it was cast iron and painted green.
    Dont know if that helps

How about this one? It is made from brass. Pictured next to a pen to give idea of its size.

It opens up to a hollow tube with an angled mirror in one end.

Nah Soapy . Its my next door neighbours passion fruit tree .
The old bloke retired last year and he is the best neighbor ive ever had.
He is just a good old honest bloke. When ever he sees me in the garden he asks how many passion fruits are on my side of the fence.
I tell him there is fuck all passion fruits growing over the fence but I dont think he believes me

OK. Here is one for you. What is this tool and what is it used for. Do not worry about the squiggles on the sides this is just to confuse any image search engines (I hope).

    Cheers

A couple of green frogs in a nice cool spot maybe ?.

I think you're on to it Benno.

Agree frogs. My grandfather's dairy used to have them in the same type of location.

Hm, I like Dicko’s idea Lol.
I’m thinking bottle opener, opium poppy picker, food scraper but I can’t think what for, or a tool for getting fleas off your camel.

Doesn't have the surgical quality to be a kitchen or food tool. Can't see any sharp edges for cutting. Flimsy connection to the wooden handle.

Its not some sort of pattern you would use on a wood lathe is it?  The hinges are confusing, they seem to work on two different axis which means they shouldnt work at all.

Not for wood lathe mate, that is for sure. Been turning wood for over 40 years and never seen one of them.
I was wondering if it was some sort of pattern/strickle too though. For shaping something but beats me at the moment for what.
The hinges are not really hinges, they are holding the 2 sides in place.
Showed the old boiler the picture and she thought it was a cheese slicer of some sort, similar to Bloodog.
Maybe the answer is in the gap in the middle of the device?
I'm thinking something to do with making candles perhaps.

Could it be a gadget for doing cornices or for finishing concrete on the outside of some buildings?
Whatever it is I reckon the answer is in that elaborate pattern.  What looks like that?
