g,day all , so since having the new limited a short while now and getting through the run in period .. things seemed fine but as i didnt take it above 3000 rpm to muchi can say i really noticed anything noise wise .. just on the odd occasion a give it a bit of a squirt , bike had the stage 1 upgrade and during its first 1600 service i told them it had a bit of a flat spot from decel to getting back onto it again , so they flashed it through a tune again and it did the job .. however i have noticed that on acceleration now it seen to make what i can only kind of describe as like a clatter noise....  seems fine at idle or low revs , cant say i hear the same from my 107 m8 .

Some inconclusive talk about it on other forums Wello. Can you take it back to the dealer?
I have almost no noise on my 107 M8 Ultra with nearly 40k on it.

Could well be pinging or detonation your hearing. Depending on tune some pull timing out of the motor. I know that power vision does it with autotune. Pinging is also the result of of a lean tune...sounding like they simply gave you a generic flash download

Good point PB. What octane fuel are you using Wello?

ok so after looking through several forums it seem quite a common noise , specially on the tourers for some reason so im taking that its not such a big issue for now but will mention it if i happen to pop into the dealers and see what they have to say .. and my sportglide has no real issues as such .. just that slight ticking noise that they all seem to make : ).
one other thing i have noticed on the ultra .. when coming down the gears , if i downshift and clutch out each gear i dont seem to have any probs but every now and then i go to downshift like say if traffic comes to a sharp halt , and i go to grab a few down and it just seems to get locked into gear and wont go down and have to reales clutch to get it to downshift.

i use 98 almost all the time , but got caught out with 95 once or twice.

That changing down one gear & having to release then reclutch to go down further gear is common on many bikes when trying to go down a few cogs at once. Can't always snick down more than one gear by holding clutch in.

My 107 seems to have a lot of tappet noise. I mentioned it at 1000k service but nothing changed. Hoping its normal.

The 'clatter' noise can be the classic detonation sound. When you twist it hard, as has been mentioned with a too lean a mixture or spark timing too much advanced, higher load (riding two up up a mountain on a hot day) - they all can contribute to detonation (aka pinging). The higher octane fuel can keep it at bay.
Get it sorted before it does any damage.

not as bad as my old fjr 1300 .. i would filter to the front at lights then drop the clutch and take off on green .. FIRST ..... SECOND ...... fuuuuuck!  its stuck in second ... cars rapidly catching me up ... lol

Ross have you seen what your rockers look like? I don't mean yours specifically but rather the M8 rockers in general, the SE catalogue has the remedy to the tick, should be standard but you know how they roll.

Yeah, make you pay extra for stuff it would have cost nothing to do properly in the first place. I see what you mean by those forked abominations. I'd be more concerned about one valve not having enough clearance but it does explain why it clatters despite having hydraulic lifters. I'll look into that and maybe get it done when the 8000km service comes up. Was thinking of a Stage II then anyway.

My 107 has always been noisy, mentioned it at the dealer at the 1600km and the 8000k service, they just said it's normal. Even if it is normal and not doing any damage I would love to get rid of the noise!

depends what noisey is really .. my 107 sportglide only gets a bit tappy when im actually riding at pace .. at idle it seems fine , sits around 800 rpm and nice and lumpy : )

Mine is noisy right across the rev range. Mine idles over 900 rpm and not lumpy at all, still have the stock cam.

my understanding is, all Harley engines have some noises. If you mute the pipe, the engine noise will be equally loud.
M8 's engine is supposed to quieter than TC as new design. Probably because the pipe is not loud enough....err.....oops ;)

    Hey Wello,
Did the guys at your dealer shop checked the knock sensors? Faulty knock sensors could also be the problem, might be an idea to check...Faulty knock sensors can send the wrong info to the computer and by trying to rectify a problem that did not exist it creates another one.
Another idea If you are mechanically minded, you could dismantle the spark plugs and take a close picture of the spark plugs electrodes to share in the forum(if you can)to have a better diagnostic idea of what’s happenin’ inside your engine.

You reckon it could be pinging Uncle Chougs? I suppose it could be if Wello is unfamiliar with that noise, didn't think of that, went straight mechanical, faulty knock sensors can knock the timing around by 5 degree's, would of though the ECM would pull it but perhaps not.

You must have missed the first few posts suggesting detonation!
