    Guys,
Need your advice on what should be a simple one. I am just swapping derby covers on a 04 softail and ive taken the cover off and their is already a thin gasket inserted in the primary case. I want to check that this thin gasket(imaged attached) is sufficent? Or should i also be using the standard disk gasket?

The stock orange or black large O ring works fine , but some aftermarket/accessory derby covers require the large circular gasket.

Usually both are not used at the same time.

I have the same question. I bought a Harley derby from ebay and an orange gasket (also Harley one).
If I saw this rubber ring on my bike too, do I still use the orange gasket or not?

    thx

    Thanks Retro
So the thin black or O ring thats already inserted into the case in the image. Sorry you will have to zoom to see it, should be enough?

Yes the stock OEM from new black ( sometimes orange !) large "O" ring works well and is reuseable many times if you are careful with cleaning and placement.

Sometimes you have to clean them ( don't stretch it !) and put them in a poly bag in the freezer to "shrink" them before carefully replacing them in the groove.

The groove is in the derby cover itself y'see.

Those paper/rubber/metal composite full size gaskets ( says face towards clutch or similar on them) ALWAYS fuck up eventually.

I am starting to wonder if your whole outer primary cover may be aftermarket ? Happens all the time , first thing to get munted on the left side usually.

    Awesome, thanks
I agree, i think its an aftermarket primary as it seems alot of parts on the bike  are aftermarket as i am finding out as i go.
I have just used the o ring and tidied it up and well see how it goes.
