Well now Rio Tinto are in negotiations with both state and federal gov to assist keeping Tomago smelter going not surprisingly the cost to power the place being the major factor. Up to 5000 people will be impacted if it shuts.

I've never understood how offshore wind could be profitable unless it's subsidised to buggery.

Seems like plenty of nations are waking up from the fantasy...were still marching on for a reason that's unclear. The worst polluters continue to increase their emissions to supply us with products to reduce our negligible emissions, makes sense doesn't it.

So in just over a week all our electricity bills go up BUT its not all bad news for some who are supposed to have brought us cheaper electricity. Our top electricity bureaucrat gets a $420 a week pay rise bringing him up to $932k ...this was a reward for keeping Broken Hill of all places without power for 10 days! This is a area that has 200mw of wind, 53mw of solar and 50mwh battery power available but couldn't be used locally because "due to commercial interests and strict energy network rules" The boss of Australian Energy Regulator who made that call will now get paid $1719 per DAY. The boss of Climate Change , energy and water gets paid $2553 per day....and here we are faced with even more bill pain.
