ultra limited .. stage 1 .. OR NOT ?

G,DAY .. so my ultra limited has been picked up by the dealer for trade in on a new one .
it had a stage 2 already done when i bought it .. was running like an utter dog so i had it dyno,d .. i told them i was not interested in speed and just wanted it to be as fuel efficient as it could be .. and they certainly did that .. pretty much ran like a dream and almost doubled the k,s from a tank.

im not normally one to change much and generally dont spend a heap on upgrades etc .. but as ive been waiting for the new one to arrive ive been pondering doing a stage 1.
will doing it make it more efficient .. im still not interested in power/speed ..beings as its an m8 motor and bigger anyway , so is it worth getting it done and if so what is a ball park cost .. cheers : )

Yes, go for a stage 1, cost various  on what exhaust you put on, Full system or Slip Ons  and what aircleaner, or just a high flow insert inside yours,  Guessing allow $2g

Yeh I’m keen to take it for a ride with standard pipes , my other one had monster ovals and although I liked the sound .. both my wife and I had ringing in the ears after a decent ride, using the sena intercom also doesn’t help much either !
I had the full basani system put on my sportglide from new .. and now it seem like it spits and farts a bit on decel and I’m wondering if it’s doing any damage as I don’t think it was tuned and I’m reading if u take off the standard pipes they have a cat converter and removing that without tuning can have a negative effect .

Your Std bike is very restricted and runs way better with stage 1. Get it tuned and dont go with loud pipes if they bother you. I run V&H mufflers with quiet baffles. Still plenty of bark when you need it but after 70000klm never been a problem with noise

I thought about pulling the guts out of the standard pipes .. and maybe a high flow ac .. then maybe a tune

God yes....  They run slower than a 250 in stock tune.  Cannot believe they can keep a straight face when they sell them.

Try and stay with a brand name tuner. The tuner is the more important component in what you start of with.

Power vision or screaming eagle are the most popular brands for a tuner with most canned tunes and advice available to help you auto tune etc.  If your moving to a m8 from a twin cam it will possibly go better with a stg 1 against your stg 2 on the old motor

To be honest I won’t be fiddling around much with it when it’s done , if any issues come up then I will just take it back and get them to deal with it as a warranty issue ,  I’m presuming as they are fitting it all it won’t effect the warranty .

I like your approach - If there was an issue with the engine then it would have been a good excuse for a 124 kit

You will be pleased with the new cam and custom tune, I went for the SE 462 cam to keep my warrantee, I know the R/S 468 makes a couple more hp & torque but I wanted the piece of mind of having the warrantee having the previous years M8 probs(sumping etc), it made a huge difference to my FXLRS (114) the bike now runs as it should ($4-5k) down the track, All the popping and a flat spot around 3000 rpm gone, the bike runs heaps smoother with power to burn, these new M8's are really restricted with their pipes, aircleaner and tune

Yeh I’m aware of all the discussions on warranties when changing out parts etc .. I will be talking to the sales .. and service department before riding it away .. I will get a good indication of what they say and what they do when I take my glide back for a service as it’s been spitting a bit on decel , so if they say it’s coz of the pipes ( that they fitted ) and don’t want to play ball .. then I will know where I stand I suppose

Well your going to be disappointed straight up......they will tell you it needs a tune, the canned tune is a basic generic safe one suiting all bikes with the same mods. Its not SPECIFIC for your bike.

Yes dealer fitted, there is a good M8 cam shoot out on youtube that you might find interesting, sorry i don't now how to put up the link, the se 447 is a torque cam, a power cam may be a better selection for your sportglide though imo
