and has a few questions If I could ask for him
First Q. The tank has rust inside is it fixable?
Second Q. Would this exhaust baffle be riveted in, are these rivets
Sorry the tank photos are a bit rough Im trying to get a bit of sun to hit the inside of the tank
    Cheers Bloodog

Yes there are several products that you can buy that line the tank in a kind off plastic goop. You can also chemically wash the tank .

P.O.R or POR is a tank re-liner that I have used and would use again if I had to.
You have to follow the directions to a tee for a good result.
It comes with a few different fluids that first de-rust your tank and clean it up before the tank liner fluid goes in.
The tank I was fixing had numerous pea sized holes open up with the de-rusting fluid on the underside. They were patched up with the liner fluid soaked in fabric/flannelette and the tank never leaked a drop afterwards as long as wifey owned it.
I bought it from a fibreglass shop in town. Mr google should point you in the right direction.
It'd be tempting for your mate to leave the outside of his interceptor tank like it is, that tank has got patina with a capitol P.

I have heard of quarter filling the tank with blue stone and shaking it around to get the rust out

in the national motor bike museum in nabiac ,they have fuel tank sealing kits.
may be add some kerosene to the blue stone and make wet medium to shake with the  rust....mounting in a paint shaker would work ,as long as it didnt dint the tank, might be a bit aggressive though.

good memory jolt Bruce, it was a wet process
I was thinking water, kero would work
there was 3 or 4 rinses to do after to get all the stones and fluid out with petrol

I used a product on/in my metal Tenere tank. End up sealing really well but added xx amount of kilo's to tank weight. As the boys say Blood, it do have a certain er patina, and what ever he gets follow the directions. Though personally I'do the cheaper option first with stones and diesel/CLR or whatever to move the easier shit, then go treatment and good sealer, with watching the bloody weight of the shit.

How much is a new tank?,  my arse!. Where the blazers do you think you'd get one?.
Give the bloke some credit, he aint restoring a postie bike.
Honda Interceptors seemed to be a bike of merit in the day,(not that I remember them, but each to their own), here is a youtube snippet for the doubtful

There was about 5 in varying condition (looked better than op’s) on eBay about 500 landed.
Couldn’t you machine him up one out of a block of kauri pine fc?

Don't be so silly. You shit stirrer.
If it got to that you could fill the tank with concrete then chip away the metal and fashion a new beaut one out of aluminium around the concrete negative.
    Simple.
    EDIT
Oh, I see there are some on ebay for sale (who would have thought). Sorry to go beserk.  POR isn't too erxpensive though.
I will ignominiously dive back into my beer.

They were a decent bike in their day prone to can chain tensioner failures and premature cam failure. They won a few Castrol six hour races and i sold shit loads of them when new. The next generation was the gun bike....VFR750. Gear driven cams and plenty of go but a 16 inch front wheel. The legendary VFR750R or RC30 came from this bike. If i had a few of them in my shed i would be a happy boy
