g,day ..after a few near misses of people pulling out on me etc .. i was giving it some thought about getting a camera .. helmet or bike mounted ! ..not that they save you from any kind of injury but quite often as i have observed on youtube they tend to lessen so called road rage .
im still in two minds weather to get one at this stage but here is something i have been observing lately ... the majority of the time i ride with a jacket and all the other safety gear etc .. ive noted i get pulled out on quite regulary.. specially when entering roundabouts .. ive noted also when i make any kind of suggestive hand signal i just get an earfull of expletives or the middle finger blah blah .. when i pull up at the lights i notice people are clearly looking at me ..also i get tailgated quite often. the list goes on !!!!

however.. just recently as its got hotter ive not been wearing my jacket on some of my shorter excursions and ive taken to wearing just a blacked out mask due to being hit in the face by something.. my arms and hands have full sleeve tattoos, and although im not by nature a violent person i have been told they look a bit intimidating.
so heres my observation as silly as it might sound !! .. whilst just riding along with my teeshirt on ,, ive had not one person tailgate me, ive had one guy at the roundabout go to pull out and then suddenly jam on the anchors ( he apolagized ) .. when i pull up at the light etc .. i look around and not one person really seems to want to make eye contact.

hhmmm .. strange ay ! .. people just seem to steer clear and suddenly give me plenty of room : )

I lived in Perth for 30 odd yrs & def noticed the media rammed the, Bikie bad ! very bad outlaws sarga down the throats of mr & mrs Citizen on a regular basis, showing charity runs sometimes by 1%ers or just a group of like minded ppl just cruising as villains blocking traffic oddly it don`t seem that way in NSW well at least not around the south coast where I am, maybe sumfin to do with it

Wello, man that is a very astute observation, which I completely agree with, think ya correct about the tatts.
Mr. and Mrs Joe Average still have the mind set that motorcycles plus tatts equals big bad bikers who are intent on raping (The purple headed lady-arghhh) and pillaging, of like the good old days.
These people are slow thinkers, as even the local coppers have got tatts.
I bought one of those little camera thingos to put on my bike about 2 months ago,for the same reasoning as you, it is still sitting in my saddlebag. Thanks for reminding me, another little project over Christmas. Plus, just last week after a cocksucker in his four be truck ( yeah I got one too!!) thought that I'd look nice as an ornament on his stinken front bull bar, a narrow escape, again... So I stopped at an auto joint and bought an air horn, to maybe wake them up.
These are after the fact items, but just maybe, they might save your life or someone else on a motorcycle.

I just got a 1/2 sleeve (my first tat) and have to agree that a teeshirt and tattoo certainly seems to tone down the wankers.

haha .. yeh its a bit of a catch 22 .. it kind of helps, but wouldnt do me much cop for a dose of road rash lol .... but i dont mind just cruising around and taking in all the scenery .
ive had tatts since i was old enough to get them.. and the only reason i got sleeves was to cover up all the shite i no longer much liked.

its certainly true that they are way more prevelent nowadays .. my wife has quite a few and she manages a bank .. all my girls have them also, they are all respectful girls with good jobs so i dont really think that mantle sticks nowadays but i guess it still carries a bit of the old stigma...

what i do find quite funny is when people say to me....oh so now u ride a harley u got to go and have full sleeve tattoos.. or now u got sleeves u got to have the harley to go with it ... these are people that dont really know me or havent seen me in years .. ive had both bikes and tatts all my life ; /

Perth drivers cutting you off, tail gaiting, having trouble merging, changing lanes on there blind side on the freeways, not indicating, sitting in the right lane 20kms below the speed limit, I shocked mate !! How can this happen ?

as for the camera .. im keen to get one but not sure about helmet mounted, kind of bulky looking .. but unsure where best to mount on the bike for best results and also having two bikes makes it a bit harder unless u have two mounts .. open to suggestions : ))

I see some value in a dash camera if you were taken out in a accident ? A regular guy I have travelled with had his come off and kiss the dirt, wiped out, another time a bug splattered on the lens before travelling on a scenic road, viewing the footage just a shit splatter blur, do what suit you.

I’m thinking your observation is spot on Wello.
A few years back I had a tricked up 68 mini deluxe. Loved it but I was cut off regularly, strangely that never happened when I was driving my old 4wd with a big bull bar.
Starting to wish I had some skull tattoos.

There's a huge difference in the space I get given between the Triumph and the Harley. Makes me laugh when they pull up leaving a full car space behind me at the lights or pull over just to let me pass because they don't like me sitting behind them. On the Triumph it's business as usual.

Well Wello,
just finished mounting the twin air horns, discreetly stashed in behind the fairing (Road Glide)
Gave me a minor heart attack when I blasted, and I am near deaf.
Now for that stupid fucken camera.
I was thinking of doing the discreet thing and stash, with all but lens hidden, but then thought it's no deterrent if someone can't see it, plus if i am killed on the bike by some fuckwit, no body will look at footage as it wont be obvious, so that would be pointless too.
With your query Wello, any thoughts, other than on person, as I don need any appendages hanging loose off me?

well i think the camera is a definate ... riding back home from the mundaring weir pub "cough cough " .. turned into roe hwy and cruising along with wife on the back and suddenly some daft cow in a black range rover just cuts right across in front of me and into a right turn lane.. fark me!!!! .. wife face plants my back and twists off !! .. gave her a blast of the shite harley horns, she just sticks her hands up as if to say " what ? ... FFS !!

what shits me mate is i noticed her coming up in the left lane as i was approaching the lights, so she must have seen me .. then as he rear wheel got level with my front wheel i caught sight of her indicator, that was lucky because if i hadnt she would have taken me right out... no sooner had she indicated and she just moved right across two lanes .. man those brakes on the sportglide work well. if i didnt have my wife on the back i would have chased her down .

Hey All,
I ride every day with a return trip of around 70 km's to and from work, and it astounds me with the amount of cage drivers that are on their fking phones.

I do like the idea of a hand gum or discarding spent limbs though..

Might be my new years resolution.
