    Hi All,
    Brand new here. 

    Just got a new 2019 Slim. And in the shed this morning left it in neutral and the bike fell as it rolled forward a tad. 

    Nice large dint in the fuel tank now from the indicator. Cant express the disappointment. 

    Any recommendations on the fix? Ca be popped and painted? new tank? etc. Located east of Melbourne 

    Feel free to ridicule as copped the lot from the wife this morning anyway

    I would try the companies who detail cars for the Car Yards. They can get out most minor dints without damaging the paint. I know a guy in NSW who does this and its amazing what they can do, from restoring mag wheels, buffing out scratches, paint touch ups. The only thing I would be wary of is when they paint bumpers/bonnets etc they use extra hardener in the 2pac paint to get it to go off much quicker, as they are generally doing it on site, which means down the track the paint will lose its gloss and the repair will become more visible.

    Hi whompa and welcome to the forum. 
    Don’t be too hard on yourself, you weren’t even there.
    While I’m not familiar with the M8 side stand set up I’m certain it locks into place so if it didn’t, why not?
    Is it faulty? if so make a warranty claim.
    If not faulty, ok, idiot. :)
    As it’s a new bike I assume it’s insured and subject to your policy you may be able to make an at fault claim. Still have to pay the excess. 
    Personally I’d leave it, the battle scars gotta start sometime.
    Some dents can be tapped or pulled out without cracking the paint, it’ll depend on the location and the depth of the dent and it’s extremely difficult on the convex surface of a tank.

    It is a large dint so cant leave. Going to go insurance only 500 to repair

    Is it your first Harley?  Asking more around the process for using the Stands etc, which can differ to Jappa bikes.

    I always leave my bike in neutral. If your shed or wherever you leave it parked isn't a flat surface leave it pointing up the incline.

    We've all done it. 
    I'm guessing that you feel like a three year old that's just dropped her icecream. Maybe try googling paintless dent removal. I'm not sure of the process, but you should still be able to go through your insurance.

    You'll feel better once it's fixed.

    Just use what approach your comfortable with.  I NEVER leave my bikes in gear; always in neutral.
    Get a feel for the side stand as each model seems to vary.  With my ones you extend the side stand to its fullest ad then lean the bike down on it firmly.  Once the sidestand hits the ground the bike still travels a bit more - this is the sidestand actually 'locking' in place.

    So once the bike is on the sidestand you cannot actually push it forward and have the stand callopase as its locked in!  Unlike a jappa side stand which in most cases does not lock in so you can roll the bike forward and onto its side witout too much trouble.

    And yes we have all done it!  I ended up throwing myself under the damn bike to stop the tank hitting the ground - well in hindsight that was stupid as the bike nearly broken my leg...lol

    If the new M8 tanks are similar to the twin cam softail tanks then at least the repairer can take off the big cover that sits under the instruments. It will give them much more scope than just the fuel cap hole to push the dent back out.

    Reminds me of the time I got stoned and went for a ride. It was a beautiful morning and I ended up stopping for another couple of pipes on the way home.
    I  carefully rode home and pulled up on the driveway and stepped off the bike (ZZR 1100)  but forgot to kick out the sidestand. 
    As the bike was falling I grabbed the bars and tried to hold it up but it was too far gone and the engine was still running so I revved the fuck out of the thing for about three or four seconds until in my panic I got it back up and released the throttle.
    The next door neighbour came out and asked if I was allright and I  said   "yeah man,  its all good"

    Shit man sorry to hear. There's a little trick I learned a while back for small dents. Won't work if it's too big though. Get yourself some compressed air in can. You can pick it up from bursons for about 7 bucks. Shake it up good and boil the kettle. Get a rag and a bowl. Fill the bowl with boiling water and soak the rag. Spray the shit out of the dent with the compressed air. Focus the spray as much as you can into the dent. It should get really cold. As soon as your satisfied compress it with the rag that's been soaking in the boiling water. You should hear a pop and hopefully it's all good. The idea is that the rag will make the cooled metal surface expand forcing the dent out. I Tried it on my old tank and popped it out a bit, maybe half way. Unfortunately for me the dent was a little too big to get out completely. But shit it's a 7 dollar fix. If it doesn't work no biggie and no damage to the paint. Hope this helps

    Mate, I feel for you. Back in 1986 I had a shmicko 1980 XS1100RH Yamaha. Well, I too leaned the hard way to either park up an incline, or leave it in gear. Only issue is, all my mates were there to witness it. Not too much sympathy coming my way I can tell you. Rode without one mirror and rear indicator for the next 12 months to remind myself not to do it again ... at least not until my pristine 749S Ducati side stand sunk into the sand and fell over (broke front mirror strut within the fairing). I hope you learn quicker than I have!

    Thats rough luck mate but there is plenty of video`s on youtube & also paint less dent pullers for sale super cheap, Autobarn & of course Ebay not sure how successful they are depends on size of dent & if creased I spose

    Welcome aboard whompa.
    Don't feel too bad, you're not the only dumb cunt on here. My Breakout side stand didn't lock in properly and I didn't realise. I turned to walk under the house and heard the creak of the side stand on the concrete driveway, spun back around only to see it fall on it's side and it hit my little daily driver as well.

    It didn't get the tank but did enough damage to other parts, a couple I didn't bother replacing as there's very minimal damage you'd only see if you knew to look. Still a thousand dollar fuckup replacing the bits I did though and probably five hundred to the car which I've never bothered fixing.
