Holden failing badly

    The brand’s marketing share has been shrinking since 2013, when it made the announcement that local manufacturing would cease in 2017. In 2013, it sold 112,059 cars. In the first 10 months of this year it has sold just 37,301.  Sales this year are down 26.6 per cent on 2018, which in turn was down 33 per cent on the previous year.

    Not too surprising Pauly. No longer being Aussi made they lost all their Govt and local Council sales plus I’ve never seen a Tele ad for a Holden product. I saw a weird looking wagon last week and was surprised to see a Holden badge on it, then yesterday an odd looking SUV Acadia, only one I’ve seen, again Holden badge. Everyone around here seems to drive Toyota, Volkswagen or Hyundai and Isuzu. I guess that says it all.

    They made a big mistake not bringing in a competitor for the Mustang. Every man and his dog has got one of them.
    The GMH equivalent Camero is only available through Walkinshaw and HSV, at nearly twice the price.

    Thats how they got to this position Pedro.....they were building cars no one wanted. Mustangs only sold 9000 cars last year, that's not enough Camaro sales to keep the doors open. Now if they produced 4x4 utes here.....

    I was talking to a guy who worked at the special vehicle dept at Holden, told me it will never happen, the car is designed for LH drive markets only, costs too much to retool for RH markets, Ford was smart and designed the stang to be modular and global.

    Yeah, not a good look. A 'rich' first-world country can't even make its own way to manufacture its own vehicles. No motorbikes, no cars. 
    Our country is actually very poor in vision & innovation. Does nothing for the national collective moral.

    I rest my case, we in Australia are well behind and get upstaged by a developing African country. Good luck to them in Ghana!

    Umm not all good news sadly......Kantanka vehicles are assembled in Ghana from CKD (Complete Knock Down) kits supplied by a Chinese firm, possible Foday through Chongqing Big Science & Technology.

    I like my Ford Ranger. I really do. But without that model being the sales success it’s been, even the Mustang wouldn’t have saved Ford in Australia.

    Moral: utes are awesome and are the only thing keeping Ford above water (Isuzu too for that matter), and delayed Holden getting the ‘green dream’.

    But what’s the next wave Ford will have to get right to survive? Utes won’t be the top 3 sales forever....

    But what’s the next wave Ford will have to get right to survive? Utes won’t be the top 3 sales forever....

    Models are a phase that buyers go through , electric will be the only option in our life time

    Not so sure on that PB - batteries would have to get a lot cheaper and we all can’t have solar panels on our roofs to charge the things.
    I reckon a mix of ICE, EV, hydrogen and hopes & dreams will be the ticket.

    Just to give you some idea....France will BAN all petrol engined vehicles from the road by 2040. All you need is bunch of greenies jumping onto a #support france movement and we all know how these things end up.

    I’d ban French cars here too if I had the chance.
    Good luck with that I say - the French know how to protest when they realise they can’t have their bagel and eat it too.
