Okay, so NOT starting yet another oil thread.
This question is around:  Does/has anyone run say 140 weight gear type oil in their Sporty.  I'm finding the Redline MTL (and its a bloody good oil normally) a little clunky/perhaps thin  HOWEVER I run a quickshifter 100% of the time so the gearbox can react differently when the oil is hot vs cold vs not ever using a clutch.

Thinking of a 90/140 type weighted oil.

i being running in all 1985 up Sportsters , Penrite HPR40 , its as thick as ya want to go in da clutch with no chain wear , its a 25/70w with no friction modify's  ,i been using it for over 20 +years now , also for Big-Twin primary oil , no worries

I'm using Redline MT-90 think its about same as MTL, but I don't have an ignition cut out.
I ride a lot, can't feel a clunk , but know what you mean as have had that with other Harleys . are you using stock clutch?

Clutch is stock plates with the grenade plate removed and replaced with extra plates.
I'll try Harley/Redline/Penrite and see if I notice a difference (its only a quart a pop so not an expensive exercise).  I think the answer will be specific to my riding style and setup - after all part of the fun is chasing the elusive perfect gear change...lol

everything sounds ok, I just thought if you had a heavier spring it might be causing the thud, as you shift full throttle . I always had the redline heavy shock proof in gear box on big twin but it would load up the clutch in the primary. they make a light shock proof and all the pro stock drag bikes use that in gear box. a few people I know said they used it is sporty's and was the best. but I have been told the shock proof in the oil goes off in clutch and you get a sticky mess in the primary. but that would be the oil to solve a thud when shift as the oil was designed to stop shock. it would be good if we could seal off gear box from primary.
